I didn't say i needed cornfields to be happy. I want a place where my kids can run and play. Also a place where when I look out my window I don't see my neighbor in the bathroom. I grew up on a farm and yes I am a farm girl, but you know what..country people are the nicest around...they know what hard work is. If it wasn't for them you wouldnt' have your houses on top of each other or your glorified 3 acres. A developer will stick a house anywhere and everywhere. I have always said the closer you are to the president the more it costs. And about Las Vegas, well guess what there are nice developments out there that surround the city with plenty of desert to enjoy. Maryland is a tiny tiny state and when you cram all these people in here you get crap..the roads are bad and all the farm land is GONE...and I would like to know what age range you are in to say there was alot to do in a short distance..i grew up in Western Howard County when there were only corn fields and the closest grocery store was 40 mins away. I miss those days. I miss the days when you could leave your door open and the wind blowing in your house..not anymore!!!!!!!

I grew up in Anne Arundel County during the 90's. Annapolis 10 minutes away, Baltimore 20 minutes, and DC 45 minutes. I like a place with plenty of shopping, restaurants, and attractions nearby (these are the "things to do" I was talking about). Driving 40 minutes to the grocery store isn't my idea of high quality of life. Maybe it is for you and that's fine. But that doesn't mean that you need to constantly talk about how horrible of a state Maryland is, just because it no longer fits your personal preference. You're obviously miserable living in today's Maryland. Well I would be absolutely miserable living in the Maryland you reminisce about. You're right, you do need to move and find somewhere new. But that doesn't make the state an awful place. It's just not suited for you.
Also, you say all the farmland is gone. I guess all that farmland on the Eastern Shore, and mid-western Maryland doesn't count. It may be decreasing in size, but it's still there. It's certainly not gone yet.

Well excuse me for not knowing all the proper names for identifying this state. When I say “Mid Western” Maryland, I mean the middle west, as in west of Central MD, but east of far western MD. Oakland’s the only place in MD that’s country? Give me a break! What about the lower Eastern Shore, the rest of western MD, northern MD? You’re not even being realistic in your posts. You’re just posting exaggerated comments in order to support your extreme displeasure with your current living situation. Yes I enjoy going to DC. There’s much more to that city than a few museums. Obviously you’ve never given that city much of a chance if you think it’s nothing but museums and getting drunk. And if there’s nothing in DC that’s worth driving to, please explain to me what there is to do in this world of endless cornfields and wide open front doors that you love so much. Please tell me what I and the countless other visitors to DC are missing, so that we can stop wasting our time in that city and come out to the country where things are really happening. But oh yeah, you don’t like tourists in the country.
As for Baltimore, I’m originally from that city and have spent a lot of time there my entire life. I have never once heard a gunshot or witnessed a crime. I’m not saying that crime isn’t a problem, because it is, but you’re hardly risking your life by visiting the harbor. And I value my life too much to waste it away living in a bubble of fear.
And one more thing too, I also have an opinion. I would respect yours a little more if you actually backed it up with realistic statements rather than exaggerated ones such as "the only country area left is Oakland" and "going to harbor is risking your life".

Why do I have a hard time believing that??? I went to college with many of folks that were from Baltimore, and they have told me endless stories of their friends and loved ones being murdered at a young age.................

I'm a city born idiot now? I thought you said this was all just our opinions. You disregarded a lot of what I posted. I'll say it again, there's a lot more to DC than the National Mall area and all the boring "concrete buildings". If DC is so boring, just what makes farmland so great? Watching wildlife all day would get boring too.
I never said you didn't like tourists in this country. Go back and read my post. I said you don't like tourists in the country, as in Oakland. You were complaining about how there were hardly any regular people there. You're the one putting words in my mouth. You wrote this:

For your information, I have been to Oakland. I will only say it one more time, I have never once heard a gunshot in Baltimore. If you don't want to believe me, fine. Then I don't believe that you grew up in Howard county.
I never said I wanted my kids to grow up in downtown DC or Baltimore (once again, putting words in my mouth). I didn't even grow up in those cities. I visited them a lot, but didn't live there. There are plenty of nice communities here in Maryland that are great for raising families. Wasn't this discussion originally about the entire state and not just these two cities? I only brought DC and Baltimore into the mix because I was stating that one of the things I like about growing up in the Maryland suburbs as opposed to a rural setting is being close to the amenities that these cities have to offer.
And BTW, please spare me the "you've probably never" and "city born idiot" statements and build a real argument.
