Why is Maryland so Expensive and Ghetto? For the amount it costs to live in this state, we should have minimal crime, and some of the cleanest , most respectable communities. Just last week in Montgomery county there was a double murder in aspen hill, where a father killed two of his sons. AND THIS IS IN MONTGOMERY COUNTY OF ALL PLACES!!!!!!With the amount that homes cost, extremely insane high rent, and high taxes, montgomery county should have the most respectable, noteworthy, well behaved citizens on the east coast. And lets not talk about PG county, where theres a murder almost everyday. Cost of living in PG County is very high also, but it has alot of ghetto elements that doesnt justify high home prices, and unreasonable rents. The rest of this state has many problems that needs to be fixed, but in all its not worth the cost too live here.

In all fairness before bludgeoinig you with counter punch after counter punch after counter punch, answer this question for me: Regarding the Aspen Hill situation: Are you actually blaming the county as a whole for the insanity of someone within their own home? Are you honesly suggesting that people who live in more affluent neighborhoods are less wacko than other people? I consider myself a reasonable person and I'm going to assume the same of you albeit based on your post that's not easy to do. People pay for convenience and since MC, PG are close to the nations capitol housing/rental prices are expensive, but then again resell values are also well above the national average. One more question: What's insane high rent? There's some el-cheapo apartments in PG, but as they say, you get what you pay for. |

All of Maryland is not ghetto ,the eastern shore is nice, and anway when it was September 911 they did target New York so we werent the only state, every state has its down fall no state is crime free but maybe low crime ,but low crime is not consider no crime ,low crime is very little crime,I live in Brooklyn New York in Red Hook housing projects and that was ghetto heaven, and it looks worse now ,when i first moved to Maryand it was so beautiful and quiet , I didnt like it at first but i had to get used to it ,after all i was only 8 years old at the time .i am now 38,So for that person that said Maryland is ghetto you need to leave the state of Maryland and go elsewhere, just like all of New York is not ghetto ,there are some nice parts in every state and bad parts ,Yes some parts of Maryland is expensive and some arent ,you cannot change the state of Maryland or any other state unless your superman or something .

The whole country is a terrorist target. Just pick a metroplolitan area and blink three times real fast. You really should calm down. I can assure you the axis of evil does not reside in Hyattsville, MD. |

Excellent logic (tic). I suppose there's also no value in living in Brooklyn, Queens, Northern NJ, etc, etc since Manhattan is such a huge terror target.

Ok, I do have to agree..Maryland is OVERPRICED for what it is...it's not all serene and nice people who are transplants make it out to be..yes there im sure are worse places to live, but just look at the size of this state compared to others..you can drive across the whole state west to east in 6 hours and it has a tremendous amount of crime. Frederick for instance.lets see a woman sitting out in her car with her 1 yr old waiting on her hubby and a drunk comes up and tries to steal her baby...and this is in "historic Frederick" that everyone just RAVES about. Trust me it's nothing to be proud of. Overpriced rowhouses that all these investors bought and put some siding on the asbestos siding and Home Depot fixtures in the house..viola u now have double or triple the cost. I want to know what convience you are paying for in Frederick?? Years ago this was a nice country county, NOT NOW!!!!!!!!! I can count on one hand how many times I have been to Monkey County in all my 36 years of life in Maryland. and I won't be venturing there anytime soon.

The "market" (i.e. more than just your opinion, or my opinion) does NOT think that MD is either Expensive or Ghetto. You can't have both. Either your definition of ghetto is more strict than most or your definition of expensive is lower than most. Either way, someone is willing to pay 400k for 3 BR rancher, regardless of whether it appears to be a ghetto to your or me. And it only takes one person to set the price...
That was the long answer. The short answer: Jobs! and Lots of 'em. |

This scientific study just came in:
Where people exist, crime may happen....Boise, Honolulu, St Louis, Maryland, it doesn't matter crime will exist. Second the above poster who recommend that you travel before making your claim. DC/MD is not ghetto, not even by a longshot. You need to visit Detroit, St Louis, Kansas City, Memphis, to get a strong idea what ghetto really looks like .... I love MD with all its dichotomy, Its Northern but with a southern feel its country but can be cosmo, its fast paced but it can be slow. No other region can claim this and I love md all for it. |

Jobs only if you work for the government or the military...if there are so many jobs in Maryland than why does the pay suk here unless you are an engineer or work for a government sub???...and lets see...Baltimore is the ghetto...ever been to North Avenue?? yeah thats a place to call home..and what about the students that get robbed and such near University of Maryland and Hopkins..good luck walking down Greenmount Avenue or the houses in the back of University of Maryland. There is no country feel to Maryland..it's a bunch of snots if you ask me!!!!!!!!!!!!
