My husband and I attempted to check out that area...but we got to WEstminster and were not about to drive any further out. It is very isolated and the roads leading out there are not the best to drive on.Where do you plan on working?

Taneytown is your typical small town. It's got a low-income housing section behind the library, which (the library) is very well stocked, imo. It's got a Sheetz, couple gas stations, a Dunkin Donuts, 2 good little country diners- Country Kitchen and Richie's Diner, and a Main Street community. 2 grocery stores (I recommend the Food Lion), and a car wash. Lots of people will tell you it's a racist town, but I see black and white kids walking together all the time, some mixed race couples, and there's not too many disturbances, really. All the major crimes in the last 10 years were committed by local youths who grew up there. Overall, it's a pretty safe place even after dark.

You're only 10-15 minutes from Emmittsburg, the Grotto of Lourdes, and a golf course and ski slope. 1/2 hour from Frederick, 1/2 hour to Hanover Pa, and 20 minutes to Westminster. The road going to Taneytown is just fine, nice smooth 2 lane hiway that you can do 70 on easily, if only people would get OUT OF THE WAY. lol Any other questions?

Oh, and there's also several housing developments, plus Carroll Vista retirement community just outside of town, and a paintball park 1 mile away, plus a public park with a couple tennis courts and football/soccer field.

If people would get out of the way, is exactly what I mean!!! I came up from Anne Arundel County up 140 I believe it is...and I had a vehicle in the right lane and the left lane going the exact same speed all the way up that road. This was from Reisterstown to Westminster, once I got to Westminster I was like there is NO WAY I would move here or Taneytown...IMO! I am not someone that wants to live in their cars to get somewhere.

Nj, that's my big beef too! The only reason road rage happens is because the drivers that want to drive slower - which is fine, no problem - won't do it in the slow lane. But, I only drive from T-town to Westminster most times, so I sip my coffee and deal widdit.

Hwy 140 from Westminster to T-Town is a breeze! It's 55mph and there are several passing zones. Don't be dissuaded from T-Town because of the ride from Westminster. It's a non-factor.

Plus, there's also the old Taneytown Road, which is quite scenic. And some mornings, almost exactly the same time frame involved. lol

For the most part, we really enjoyed the time we lived in Taneytown. The only thing that turned me off were the ordinances that were being passed within city limits. They enacted laws that really restrict kids and adults (no basketball hoops w/i 15' of the road, must wear bike helmets and skateboard helmets, no playing in the street, no skateboarding on streets or sidewalks, etc.) While these are sound in theory, they go 100% against the way we grew up in the suburbs. The neighborhood we lived in (next to the pond) has very wide roads with little traffic. A totally safe environment. However, in Taneytown, it is a illegal to play frisbee in these roads!

I would like to move back that way in the future, because the area is beautiful! However, it will be outside of city limits.

Stripes, I wouldn't want to live in town either, but then I'm not much of a town person anyway. Green acres, for me!
