Default Woodside Park, Silver Spring

Hello. We're moving back to the DC area from California and want to live in a close-in, walkable, progressive, and family-friendly neighborhood in Maryland. Proximity to Metro is important (husband works downtown and we want to cut back to one car.) We have a toddler and we want him to have playmates in the neighborhood. We also like older houses. We hope to find a house in Takoma Park but haven't had any luck yet. We love the sense of community and family-friendliness that Tk Pk offers, and we have friends there. However, we're now considering Woodside Park in downtown Silver Spring too because it seems like we need to broaden our search a little. Can anyone offer their perspective on Woodside Park, in terms of the criteria I mentioned? Thanks very much for your help!

I think Woodside Park fits many of the criteria you mentioned, but I am not sure how many children there are. There are many pricey homes with two-career couples.

I think a local realtor could help locate an area with children.

A friend of mine lives off of Dale Drive and just had her first child in June -- at least one of the women at her baby shower (she brought her baby in a stroller to the shower, if I recall correctly) was a neighbor of hers, so there appear to be at least a few young families in that neighborhood but the house prices are so high I don't know how they can afford it. As for walkability, you should be fine with one car -- public transportation during the daytime/rush hour is pretty good for commuting purposes, but you'll want your car for most other trips (I live nearby and I wish that I had one!) I hope that helps -- good luck!
