Hi. I just moved to La Plata as well. So far I really like it. La Plata is a nice town. There are a few restaurants nearby and a Target and Walmart. Most of the shopping is in the Waldorf area which isn't too far away. I've only been here for about 2 weeks, but so far, so good! I hope this helps a little....if you have any specific questions, feel free to ask me. I'll try to answer them for you!

There are bad parts in Maryland, but there is no need to be concerned in La Plata.

I don't know much about the safety and crime since I just moved here! I've heard/read that the La Plata area is pretty safe. I live in a quiet area of town and enjoy it very much. We have our privacy, but we're just minutes away from 301, restaurants, and shopping.

Yeah, La Plata is too quiet to have any real crime. Charles County, La Plata especially is safe.

La plata is so far out their that alot of Marylanders have never been to La plata. You are safe in La plata. I have never heard of any murder or crimes happening in La plata. I donot think anyone will drive to Laplata to commit a crime its far our from the city. Its nice and the cost of living is cheap but nice cheap.

I hate to burst the bubble, but there were a series of home invasions in LaPlata about 2 or 3 weeks ago it was covered in the Washington Post
House Break-Ins Shake Up La Plata - washingtonpost.com
I believe they caught the guy, though I'm not sure.
I'm only adding this because the people in the area didn't exercise the least bit of caution because they thought the areas was so safe. I believe it is VERY safe, but pleae exercise common sense.

^ If that's the worst you can come up with, then La Plata is fantastic!

Yes, JaBradshaw, I guess in this day and time it would be great. But it could have gotten ugly, praise the Lord no one was hurt. Maybe preventable, though, if people would just lock their doors and actually USE the alarms they have installed in their homes. I always say that I am not naive enough to think that an alarm would prevent a burglary, but I would hope it would at least let me know that somebody's coming in!
