This is not really useful info, but I was at APG many years ago. Since I relied on bus travel, I didn't see the nice part of town. If there is one, I'd like to hear about it. The area around the main road to APG was bars and fast food, and really, really rough and nasty. Downright dangerous. Since then, it probably got worse. Anyone been there lately?

I know the price of gas is high but you still might save money by living in Del and car pooling.Having lived in the Red Bank area I know where it is you are coming from.Bel air is nice but you should also liook into PA.I think it will be hard to find the same things that you had at your disposal in NJ and especially in that area.

Some of us live here "lately." Like any area, there are good and bad part, but "downright dangerous" and "probably worse"? Not really. Rt 40 is kind of run down and I don't go anywhere on rt 40 in Aberdeen, but Rt 22 has everything we need on a daily basis. Home Depot, Target, and two grocery stores. The library is in downtown Bel Air, and I feel perfectly safe walking around near there. In between Aberdeen and Havre de Grace, they are really trying to clean up Rt 40. We have a couple new strip malls, with upscale wine stores, decent local bar/grill, etc. Plus there is Bulle Rock, home of the LPGA championship (at least for one more year).
No, its not as "nice" as Bel Air, but it is much more down to earth, the people are nice, and we enjoy living here. I just got in from a walk around my neighborhood from 9:15 to 10pm tonight. I walked by myself, with my husband home asleep, and didn't even take my cell phone.

From Long Branch living in MD for 8 years now.
As person who was born and raised in Monmouth County I can say that Harford and Cecil are in no way anything like what you may be used to. I came to Baltimore from NJ to attend college and found the cheap living to be worth the stay since Monmouth county is sooo expensive. But if you are use to going to the Mall to shop or having a nice little town like Red Bank with nice shops you will not find that in Harford. Baltimore County and parts of Bel Air are the closest you will get to the comforts of home. I come home to LB at least once a month and it is only a two and a half hour drive if you take RT 18 to 195 and then 295 and avoid the T.P. just drive down and check it out one day.

Harford and Cecil county are both nice area..Harford is much more congested, I find it to be very crowded specially in BelAir. Cecil is much more rural and you get alot more for your money. I have lived in both counties but I much prefer Cecil, I find it to be a much more laidback area and I genuinly find the people more pleasant out this way. Both though are nice and very convient to Balt, Wilm and PA...cant really go wrong either way, just depends if you like it more crowded or not. Schools are good in both areas But I think Harford might be abit better depending on what area of of Harford you are in. CM Wright and Fallston are both good schools and Cecil has a great Tech HS. Ide recommend you check out both counties and Good-Luck!

Cecil County is a great place to live, the water is right here and it has that great small town feeling, a lovely main street and great schools. With the area growing new teachers are needed, I would assume. North East is not that far of a commute for you and there is hardly any traffic. Courts of Mallory has quite a few Brac/APG employees living there, nice neighborhood.

I agree with some posters. Aberdeen itself has two faces the nice and the bad side. However, Harford County in general is nice. I know the elementarey school in Riverside/Belcamp was looking for substitute teachers last year, not that it is what you are looking for but.... That is about 7 minutes from Aberdeen. I dont know much about teaching jobs but if he is working at APG you would be at a great commute in either Cecil or Harford Counties.

As a transplant from NY I really loved Cecil Co. What people have said about the friendly neighbors is so true. Within a week of living there the guy from across the street (this was in Charlestown) told us if we needed anyhting to ask, and if we ever left town, to let him know and he would look out for our house. Sure enough we went on a vacation, and when we came back he told us he had to chase some kids who where cutting across our back yard with a shotgun... haha he was a crazy guy, but it made you feel welcome in a way. FYI we never locked our doors...good luck!!!!
