Perryville and Denton
I'm looking for affordable homes in a cute, relatively safe area close enough to annapolis, Balto and DC so my friend can commute to work in those areas and I can be close to the city. We were looking at some places out in Washington and Allegany counties (I love the area near Sharpsburg) would be looking in Frederick County but I can't afford it, plus his parents live out there and he has a thing against living out there because we came from briefly living there about 2 yrs ago. So then I found Perryville on the Marc train map and thought it was cute and also saw Denton, Ridgely and Preston on the other side of the water. Does anyone know anything about or have opinions on these towns? All I can gather is that they're small towns and you'd pretty much be driving outside of there to "do anything". But I like towns that at least have pretty places to walk around so that's fine.
I am kind of trying to "sell him" on some cute town so we don't end up renting until we reach the grave. Thanks!

If you go to Perryville, watch where you move to. It's known to flood when the river gets high (after large winter storms, hurricanes, etc)

Perryville and every other place you mentioned are not close to the city, at all. The MARC train is there, but it's a long ride. If you move out to one of those places you're going to be hating life with the commute.

Perryville to Baltimore is only about 45 minutes on MARC. About 1.5-2 hours driving during rush hour (plus the toll). Add another 45 minutes on MARC to get to DC.

Thanks for the input! I was told that the bay bridge was hellacious in rush hour.

I guess it's akin to the other boonie-esque places I was considering in the fact that it's only close in the sense that it's less than 2 hours away. I just don't know what to do.

Ridgely, Denton, and Preston are all safe places to live. They are rural. From Annapolis you can figure about an hours drive.
Most of the traffic will be on weekends during the summer when everyone is headed to and from the beach. The rest of the year it's not too bad unless there is an accident, breakdown, or construction.

Perryville is very close to where I live. It is a small town. It takes me 40 minutes to get to work in rush hour traffic and I work near white marsh. I drive it everyday but dont usually hit the traffic until I get to white marsh.
