So i got a job in a call center that handles credit card balances and general credit card questions. I went to oriantation only to find out they were not going to let me start because all the back ground checks had not came back and i was honest about my back ground I have a misdemeanor for deprovation of property and one for possesion of mj. Then 7 years ago i got a summery offense. But nothing since then. They told me the next class starts in about a month and as long as everything came back ok i could start i was upfront and honest but now afraid they are not going to let me start any thoughts>>> also i talked to the back ground check people when they called the girl said she does not make the desisions hr does but she did state i was upfront and i did list them and she thought they may just keep info on file but i am scared i am not going to get to keep the job. I worked in another call center doing about the same thing for 13 years and they knew about all the above and it was not a issue i am just scared can anyone help with this ............

It depends on the job. I will say that it's better to be honest and have them find out than to lie and have them find out.

you are ok. a misdemeanor offense doesn't hurt you, especially if it's over 7 years old. hell, if that were the case most people would be unemployed.

If you are touching credit cards accounts in your job, it may matter. Jobs that involve confidential information like that are likely to be more strict about criminal records than other jobs.

Also, anytime an employer says "You have the job!"......but then upon review says..... "don't call us, we will call you in about a month for your training," take it to mean you didn't get the job. I hope I am wrong about that, but that is how I would interpret their response.
