I live in Silver Spring, bout a mile from the Blairs, also grew up and went to school here. The Blairs are OK location wise and convenience wise (they share a parking lot with a drug store, grocery store, a couple restaurants and carry-outs plus the rest of downtown silver spring has a lot going on these days), BUT, they are a large complex with the problems of a large complex; noise, lots of people coming and going, a transient population and some crime problems. Silver Spring has come a long way from when I was growing up here but it can still be a bit rough around the edges and the Blairs are not immune from this.

Schools are excellent, Montgomery Blair high school is nationally known for excellence and your kids would go to its feeder schools. All of Montgomery County is fine for schools.

Being on the red line in Silver Spring is not going to be that great for going to NRC as the line goes through downtown DC to get there. I would estimate 1 hr of train time alone (not door to door) to get there.

Overall, I think you would be better off in the Rockville area closer to where you will work as commuting times are increasingly becoming the priority around here.

Hope this helps.

Rockville is a GREAT place. I prefer Rockville over Silver Spring.
