Parts of College Park are plagued by insanely loud student homes. University Park is quiet and civilized, though.

Default Pg

Pg county is a bomb with a fuse to be lit at any time. I live in the Temple Hills area which is a zip code that encapsulates too much territory. I nominate Temple Hills as it butts DC Oxen Hill, Forestville, Suitland and Clinton. I see crime areas on tv that is supposed to be Temple Hills and I have no idea where it is. I usually suppose it to be Hillcrest Heights and points closer to DC as the houses look like pillboxes on forgotten landscape.
There is violent crime everywhere in this county because the people are crazy. Inside the beltway is a good rule of thumb.

I didn't say a single racist word.

Crime is in every county in Maryland and crime is not everywhere in Pg county so you are wrong. Crazy people are everywhere. everyone is crazy in their own way regardless of how their net worth. We have seen muti-millionaires on TV who are just crazy. I live in Upper Marlboro and love it. I can say Upper Marlboro have very low to no crime.

No place has no crime- definitely not Upper Marlboro. It's easy to find crime statistics for any district for anyone interested- just look on PG's police website.

Default Stop picking on DC

It's funny how people say, this or that area is bad. There are bad areas everywhere. How would you know it's bad? Have you ever visited these areas. I work with people talking about different areas in DC. But, they never go into the area. Trust there are some nice areas in DC, MD, and VA. And, there are so bad area in VA. People are different, because what you may think is bad maybe, okay to me. Because, it's some spots of MD don't except people of color. So, it's not about the crime. It's about the overall view.

i'll vouch for bad parts of VA. the Rt. 1 in alexandria area of fairfax co. is bad. So is Bailey's crossroads/seven corners in falls church. i went to the forest heights area just off 210 this week and if i had top choose between the 2 afforementioned ffx co areas and forest heights i wouldn't exactly be quick to jump on those areas of fairfax co like so many would.

You might want to take a look at this: burgersub.org - maps of murder. Zoom in to rt 210

I doubt there's any part of fairfax county (or the rest of nova) that has had 7 murders this year all within a square mile of each other like the indian head hwy/oxon hill/forest heights area

whoa! you are defintely right on that! murders do happen in NoVA. Alexandria has had 6 this yr (4 around the N columbus St area) but it is still not as crazy as that 210 area. I pulled up off to an apt complex on that livingston rd area. by the way it looked you would have never thought that that area would have 7 muders in 9 months.

Default Good ole days

You know, Terrapin, there was a time when inner cities were filled with immigrants where few spoke English, had very low paying jobs. They too, like all ethnic groups, were followed by their criminal elements. I recall hearing about in Cass WV, where Italian immigrants, who spoke little English, were assigned numbers at their risky, low-paying lumber jobs.

I mean who do you think is building all those beautiful new suburban homes throughout the area?

I can only speak for the immigrants I personally know, but I have a great deal more respect for them and what they have overcome than those I know who complain about them.

I believe you would feel more secure if you made friends with your neighbors of different races / national origins than if you just assumed they would shoot you.
