Hello! My husband, young son (2 years old) and I are looking for affordable housing in Harford/Cecil counties. My husband is working in Belcamp and we can't afford too much of a commute, no more then 35 mins or so. Also with our son getting closer to pre-k, some info on schools would be great! We're currently living in Edgewood and HATE IT! Through all my research the most affordable areas I've found are Edgewood, Aberdeen, North East and Elkton. All of which I've heard terrible things about. Edgewood has terrible schools, high crime, etc. Aberdeen is the supposed "white trash" capital of Harford County. North East is supposedly shady with lots of drug dealing and Elkton is redneck, racist (kkk) high drug and crime rates, especially off of 40. Can anybody give me some insight on how true these claims are, especially for North East? I was also wondering about Newark, DE since it's basically right on the MD line. Any responses would be great, thanks!

We live right on the border in Newark, De. My husband commutes to APG. It is about a 40 min commute. We like it here a lot, great schools. I have friends in Havre De Grace and Northeast, both are happy there. I also have family in Bel Air and they love it. It was a little too pricey for us, but that would have been our second choice. Please DM with any questions.

Ok, great! Bel Air is too pricey for us also or else we'd go there. I've found plenty of homes in our price range in Elkton and Newark. I've just lived in Harford County for the past 10 years and know nothing of those areas. I liked the townhomes we saw for sale in North East also but we went to see them at 3 in the afternoon and there were a bunch of people just sitting outside on their steps smoking. My husband was thinking uhhh...shouldn't they be at work? It gave him a bad impression >.<
