Question Looking to move to eastern MD

I am originally from south-central PA and am hoping to move to eastern MD to be closer to my family. I'm looking for a medium to large size town, I'm not a big city person. I'm currently in Asheville, NC (if that helps), and it's grown too large in the 11+ years I've lived here. I figure if I can't live in the mountains, as long as I'm near water I can live with the flatlands.
Would be looking to rent a one or two bedroom apt or house, but the big glitch is that I have a 7 year old Great Dane. He's well-behaved and obedience trained and titled, and is used to apartment life, but I know the difficulty of finding a place that will allow a dog his size.
So I suppose what I'm asking is, are there any pet-friendly towns that would be better to look at?
Thanks!

Are you talking Eastern Shore of just East of DC but not across the Bay?

Honestly, I'm not sure at this point. From the online research I've been doing, the following look like possibilities: Havre de Grace, Easton, or Annapolis. I realize that's quite a range!

Exclamation Eastern MD?

Ok, so perhaps just some info on the towns of Havre de Grace, Easton, and Annapolis? I have read through the archives, but was hoping to get some other input. Please!

Thanks!

If you are talking about the Eastern Shore, try Chestertown. Its a small to medium sized town with a college. Every time I'm there everyone in town seems to be walking a dog so I'd say its a dog friendly town.

Yes - but many property's have weight limits for pets - and I do not know any 45 lb Great Danes

I would suggest you do a search on Veternarians or Dog Trainers on the Eastern Shore and check with them for "pet friendly" possibilities

For example:

Eastern Shore Animal Hospital

I am partial to the Eastern Shore myself - the further you can live from the Chesapeake Bay Bridge the more reasonable your rent will be and the more rural the property choices - which tend to allow pets more than other types of areas.

Another potential rental situation would be a private home with a room over an outbuilding - private homes have less issues with liability.

BTW - does your dog have any obedience titles or can you secure a letter from your current Vet attesting to the dog's temperment? References like that go a long way.

As an owner of a big dog I KNOW the difficulties in finding suitable arrangements - I wish you well.

My family and I went to Ocean City for the first time on Monday and I love it. It seems to be nothing but small towns. It seems like majority of Eastern Shore is rural but the closer you get to the beach the more urban or Suburban it gets. The Eastern Shore have a whole different fee to it. I felt like I was in a totla different state. I have never seem small little houses in the Dc metropolitan area like I did in Eastern Shore.
If the area was more urban or Suburban I can see myself living there.
I will continue visiting Eastern Shore. I do love it there and I had fun.
They have so many Outlets. I love it.
Lots and lots of farm. It seems in some areas everyone is a farmer.

Question: Is the only way to the Eastern Shore is over the Bay bridge because that is one scary bridge.

I drive across the bridge everyday - twice a day - it gets easier.

But if you are just visiting you can arrange to pull over before the bridge east ANd west bound and have someone drive you across in your car - there is a small fee for this - contact the MD State Police at Sandy Point.

Also - you COULD drive up 95 and up and around to Delaware - then cut across - you will add a couple hours to the trip
