Questions about Rockville
I might be landing a position in Rockville soon. I need to know more about the area. My husband and I went apartment hunting last week. All the NON-SCARY apartments were about 1500. Is that what to expect. Don't laugh, but we thought that scarborough square (don't know if you all know where that is) had some scary looking areas. Is there any place we can live that is close to rockville, but not right in rockville where we get get a decent apartment from 1,000-1,200? Oh and this place has a bad rep I suppose for it's attitude toward blacks (so I've been told by others), but everyone there seemed very pretty friendly and open, and there were a lot of people from mixed racial backgrounds. Are there any areas that we should stay away from, or is that just a rumor/lie, from the past. I believe it's a lie/rumor, but would like input.
yes I know I posted earlier about wanting to get away from dc-md-va, but this job opportunity has presented itself, and appears to be a once in a lifetime opportunity. Will I ever get used to that crazy 495 is my question.

Look at it this way. 495 is nothing compared to the 405 in Los Angeles!!!!!!!! Everytime you get swamped on the 495 or 270 in MD, just rememember to be thankful you're not in the LA area.
Rockville has some nice areas. Try apartments near Grosenvor metro station. it's more like on the Bethesda/Rockville line. Bethesda's got very cute downtowns. I think 1500 is pretty much what to expect for a decent place.

Another area to try for rentals is a neighborhood called Woodley Gardens in Rockville, it's got a great sense of community, a gelato/coffee place called Carmen's you can walk to, a Hard Times Cafe, and tons of ballfields, parks, tennis courts, and a pool. The townhouses and condos rent for a pretty reasonable rate and it's close to 270 for commuting purposes.
You might also want to try Americana Centre in downtown Rockville and there are some apartments over by Wintergreen Plaza (at Edmonston & Rockville Pike) that are probably pretty reasonable as well.
