Default Pikesville

What do you know about it?

Anyone have on-the-ground knowledge of Pikesville or experience living, working, driving through, visiting there, etc.

It is a fairly affluent suburb, though a bit too congested for me. It has good-sized Jewish and Russian population. Good restaurants, good shopping. Some nice, newer communities. There is one high-rated elementary school, other schools are average. Many kids attend private schools.

What else do you want to know?

Default Downside?

Goldenage,

I'm cool with the Russian (happen to speak a little to go along with my Polish) population and the Jewish population who live there. How's the rest? Is there a lot of crime and vagrancy?

I had lived nearby, not in Pikesville itself. You can generate a crime report from the Baltimore County Police here: Baltimore County Police Crime Statistics

It's the usual thefts from the commercial businesses and from cars. One armed robbery in March. A bunch of sex offenders. I have never seen any vagrants in the County. Cross into Baltimore City, and it's a different story.

It's not bad considering it's an urban area. Some of the Orthodox Jews have community watches in the City areas. In general the Jewish people are good neighbors, and help keep the area stable.

Pikesville has a nice commercial core that continues to improve as part of the County's Main Street Program.. Probably one of the nicer "towns" in the urbanized portion of Baltimore County. There are some nice streets near "downtown Pikesville" that offer the benefits of living in a small suburban town while being only minutes away from the Metro Subway Station for the commute to Baltimore City or walking distance of a store or neighborhood restaurant. Crime is very low mostly property related stuff in the commercial areas as indicated.

It's also got the best kosher deli in Baltimore, in my opinion:

Miller's Delicatessen
