Relocating from NJ to MD
I have always driven through Maryland but now I am at a part of my life where I want to move to Maryland. Have no knowledge of the towns or cities. Can someone help me to find a area of Delaware to move to. I am an administrative assistant and hoping I can still find a job in Maryland that start off with $35,000.00 yearly. I have 2 children one in the 8th grade and the other in the 10th grade. Need a cultural environment. Also, seeking a townhouse or condo, I am a vet. Pls help!

Just to clarify...do you want to move to Delaware or Maryland? Your post states both. If you're looking for a starting salary of about $35,000 for an administrative assistant position, I strongly recommend that you look for a job with the federal govenment (usajobs.gov) or with a defense contractor in Maryland. They tend to pay higher salaries than just regular employers. And you can expect a starting salary of $35,000 in those areas. If you're looking for a townhouse or condo, and good schools, I would recommend Ellicott City. You don't say what price range you would like to buy in, but there are plenty of condos and townhouses currently on the market. Also, the Howard County school district is very good. In addition, if you got a federal job in DC you could just hop on the MARC train (commuter train) to DC at the Dorsey stop off of Rt. 100. Hope this helps.

Southern Maryland Lexington Park
I live in southern maryland , lexington park area. There are several locations in this area that would love to hire a vet.
If you want to check out St. Marys county online let me know.
I also know a real estate agent who would be happy to help you find a rental or buy once you locate where you would like to live here.
I check email daily and would be happy to help your family relocate.

Thank you!
As you can tell I am trying in 3 states I am giving myself an open window of 2 years to move from this tri-state area. Thank you for telling me about the USAjobs.gov (good look!) Right now I am currently paying $895.00 a month rent for a 2 bedroom. If you know of any other areas that you like or that we should steer clear of please let me know. Very informative information! I am thinking I need to rent to see the area I am staying in first, before, I put my money on a townhouse or cond.

Thank You!
For being so compassionate to my email. After responding to everyone else now they know why I want to make that move. I need the names of the locations "that would hire a vet" so I can input my resume. I am thinking more towards renting first to check the areas out.

Washington County has some beautiful rural areas and homes within quaint towns. Wash Co is a lot more than one city, there are several towns worth exploring.....Some disparage Hagerstown, the main city. It is a work in progress. If you have not seen it lately, you would be pleasantly surprised. It is catching up to the good parts of its neighbor, the city of Frederick. High tech jobs in Frederick may include contractor positions at Ft Deitrick, which is vet friendly. Check out theUSAJOB site.
Redevelopment has hit downtown Hagerstown. It is alive again and filled with shops, sweets, restaurants, and clubs. There are now options for after work dining & music, or late night dancing. It is also family-friendly, close to the C&O canal, hiking trails and historic parks, museum, and recreation venues. It is slowly turning into a bedroom community to Frederick, while trying to maintain its historic significance........Time will tell, the jury is out, worth the drive over to check.
Some friends of ours love living in the counties listed below. They commute to Frederick or further down. Rail service can be picked up in nearby WVa, and there is a commuter bus out of Hagerstown and Frederick to DC, and stops in between.. Some make the drive. Housing is a little cheaper further out from Frederick. Map quest it and visit each local to determine what is doable for you.
Life is a little less rushed. Excitement is a short drive away.
Wash Co Md includes many more commutable options.
Clear Spring, Smithsburg, Hagerstown, Williamsport, Boonsboro, Maugansville, Funkstown, Sharpesburg, Cave Town

West Virginia has Sheperdstown
Jefferson County West Virginia Chamber of Commerce, Charles Town, Shepherdstown, WV,
.......... Hagerstown may be developing more than most people thought when they heard the name Hagerstown. Even residents don't realize what has taken place downtown. ... Downtown Live Hagerstown - Live Music, Events, Dining & Entertainment

You could always try to get a job in the Annapolis area. They are huge on animals here. There are plenty of vet clinics also. In that case I would look on the eastern shore to live and commute to Annapolis. Some areas to look into would be Easton, Centreville, Church Hill, Stevensville, Chestertown. Another option is to work in Dover,DE and live in Greensboro, MD area. I looked into Delaware and was not impressed with the area...at all. There are a lot of nice areas just over the MD border and it still allows to work in Dover. I would not recommend trying to find a job in DC, everything and everywhere around DC is very expensive! Another area you can look into and see if they are hiring vets is Westminster,MD area. It is quiet up there and they have good schools there as well. Good luck.
