I see by your older comments that you're a HoCo cop. That explains your churlish attitude. You people put the O in overzealous and the O in overbearing.
You'll just have to deal with other O-pinions until you can get that O-utlawed.
..... what?
Voicing opinions is fine, but if you voice without wanting to know the facts then that's called ignorance and if you do it with an obvious preconceived notions like you have towards law enforcement then that's called stereotyping.
Traffic ticket revenue goes to the state general fund which funds all sorts of things law enforcement related and not. I don't work for the state so my department mainly is funded by grants and tax payer money. I did used to work for the state and I can tell you and everyone here that there is no pressure, incentive, or motivation for police to write tickets. If you received a ticket (which I'm assuming you have based off your stereotyping) then that officer felt as if you deserved it, so it looks like you are going to have to find another scapegoat for why you received your citations in the past. Or you could try assuming personal responsibility, that works too.
Oh, and I work in PG county, not Howard, so I will give you time to think up another reason for my "churlish attitude" and what else I put the O's in..... O-kay?
55 is an arbitrarily created speed limit. It has nothing to do with safety or road design.
............................................ but it is the LAW. What is wrong with people? The law is also to use your blinkers, but if you deem it unnecessary for road safety because that is your personal belief, you would still be expected to use them under the LAW. Try to BS your way out of a speeding ticket like that. Next time you're pulled over (and, you will be eventually), I want you to say exactly what you said to me here to the officer. "But officer, it's an arbitratily created speed limit. It has nothing to do with safety or road design. My opinion surpasses the law, no ticket for me!"
mdguy99, do you have something stuck in your craw about the speed limit or something. Are you one of those drivers who does slow up the left hand lanes? Just asking.
OK we concede the speed limit is the law.....yes drivers who exceed it can get tickets, and if we want higher limits we should get them changed. And?.....
...and COPS ought to obey the speed limit too. I drive Route 50 from DC to Bowie. And I see police cars FLYING in the 24 hour HOV lane at night/early morning especially. (At least 80 miles an hour) I'm going 65-70 and they blow my doors off as they fly past me like I'm standing still. I know good and well they are not ALL going to some dire emergency call. I know in several cases, if not all, they were going HOME!
How about the police obeying the speed limits they give us tickets for exceeding? And guess what? THEY won't even get pulled over for it...and when they do in their own cars....they pull out their card or badge...and go on their way.
Until THEY start getting tickets I don't want to hear about speed limits.

He's old enough to remember when 35 was blazing fast.

I don't have pre-conceived notions because I'm not commenting from a position of ignorance. To make a long story short, let's just say that making a formal complaint about a cop's bad, abusive attitude and behavior isn't a good idea.
I doubt anyone would believe some of the stunts they pulled after I complained about one of their brotherhood. Some were just plain silly and others were a little worse.

That's bull because you could use that scenario as an excuse for any rule breaking. I agree, cops are not above the law and SHOULD obey the speed limit, BUT just because some of them ignore it doesn't make it right or legal. Some husbands cheat, so it's okay for you to? Some politicians are hypocritical and break the law... so you're going to do the same until every one follows the law? A mother says that her kid should not steal, and she (mom) steals a shirt, it's then okay for the child to steal a shirt until the mother stops? Makes no sense.

Sure you are. You might have had a negative experience with a police officer and instead of reserving your opinions to that one officer and his buddies you let that get the best of you and you stereotyped law enforcement in general. From your own words:

There you try to portray cops as money hungry, mindless robots who are out enforcing the letter of the law, not the spirit of the law. I can assure you if we were so focused on revenue we wouldn't be cops, as this job's pay is **** poor for what it should be. And when you do a little poor detective work and incorrectly assume me as a HoCo cop you say:

So all HoCo cops are churlish? Overzealous and overbearing? YOU PEOPLE? lol really? You have let your one negative encounter with law enforcement go to your head and you stereotype all cops now based off that encounter. It's ok though, I am used to it as there are plenty of people who do exactly what you do. Even other forum members in this thread:

selhars here must have some sort of special telepathic ability that informs him when police are going to an emergency call and when they are just speeding home. Just because a cop doesn't have his lights and sirens going doesn't mean he isn't going to an emergency call. Are you telling me you cannot think of a time where it's advantageous for police to arrive at a scene undetected? Or what about the calls that don't fit the criteria for lights and siren but police need to arrive there ASAP? Think about it.
Are there cops out there that speed when not going to calls? Sure, there are, I'm not denying that. Is it fair to hold that against all cops? Not at all.
Like I said previously, I, as well as everyone else that holds the badge is used to the stereotyping and getting blamed for some other cops' actions. Somehow I knew this thread would turn into an opportunity for cop-bashing. I simply wanted to contribute to this thread by providing some factual information for the OP but now am having to remind people of their biased posts, which does a disservice to everyone here. Keep 'em coming guys.... I'm here all night
