Default Relocation to PG County

Hi, I'm relocating to Maryland this summer and I have accepted a teaching job in Suitland (yes I know, I know). Now with that being said I'm trying to figure out the best and most convenient neighbourhood to live in. I would appreciate any sensible and factual assistance, thank you.

I would recommend Upper Marlboro, close (or close enough) to Route 4. I used to live in the Rosaryville area in Upper Marlboro. That's not as close, but you can take the back roads to get to Rt. 4 and the Suitland area pretty easily. I found Rosaryville to provide a variety of housing stock and prices, and it was mostly a quiet area. What is your price range and other desireables?

The price range I am looking at is a max of $1300-1350, definitely has to be within close range of major highways and the school of course. I also need it to be in a diverse area, that has a decent amount of things I can do there; safety a must, don't necessarily need to be a large community...

You're going to have to sacrifice something. I believe given that safety is an absolute must, I agree with Bowian that Upper Marlboro is probably the best option. What you won't get from Upper Marlboro is a lot of things to do. Upper Marlboro is a mostly rural/suburban type area. Any type of shopping/activities that you may do will probably take place in the area that surrounds it, like Bowie, Brandywine or even Forestville. Upper Marlboro is very safe though. Apartments can be pricey there. You may want to rent a condo or a townhome from a private owner to meet that price range. The cheapest apartment is a 1 br for $1300, but there is a condo for rent at $1200/month. Just something to think about.

Not sure what part of Suitland you will be working in, but you can probably take Suitland Parkway to work. Upper Marlboro is near that, 301, and Route 4 (Pennsylvania Avenue) so you have so some major roads that you can travel around to work, shopping and visiting people.

You could try Laurel. If you ask me about upperM its not at all diverse nor safe with the school being worser there than Laurel. Why not buy? Homes in both area are pretty cheap ranging from 50k to 300k ffor 280k you could get a 4 bd 3 bth ranch with half an acre close to route 1 major highqays schools stoees shoppings and malls x ceck it out drive around and see if you like it or not.

I do know here in Greenbelt there are a number of options. Its actually very close to 495 and not very far from Suitland. Besides traffic heading south on 495 in the AM is pretty good. I know where I live here in my condo, most 1-BR units are renting for about $1000-$1100 which includes the condo fee, utilities, water, electricity, heat/AC, trash removal, upkeep, etc. There are numerous shopping centers, stores, restaurants, bars and things to do in the general area as well. If you want more info, let me know.
