I live in Frederick County, grew up in Carroll, and have family in Cecil, Kent and Queen Annes counties. In my opinion the 'Horse country' of any of these areas is NOT 'rednecky' If the two exist in the same area they are at best tolerated, more likely scorned by each other. Right now a certain portion of Frederick County seems to take pride in being Frednecks and this is led by the current President of the County Commissioners and local Radio Personality who has an afternoon talk show (follows Rush Limbaugh).

There are several types of 'rednecks' on the Eastern Shore and along the Bay there are the waterman In the Western and inland portions of Southern Maryland that haven't been overrun by development and 'minifarms' you have farmer type rednecks. In all the areas you have the 'wannabees' many of whom give a bad name to the whole group. There are a few left in parts of Montgomery, PG and Howard county that haven't been completely taken over by sprawl. Some of those abut the 'horsey area' Look around Poolesville in Montgomery County or possibly Lisbon in Howard County but folks from Washington or even Frederick would snort and say those aren't 'real rednecks'

In western howard county we are real rednecks from butchering hogs and burning firefood in the winter time working or living on farms to driving old pickups

Parts of St. Mary's County can be construed as "rural" and "rednecky".

I won't disagree but there are also people driving Porsche Cayennes and BMW M3s. It isn't quite the horse country of Loudon Cty VA but it would like to be. There are working farms andpickups that are used to haul seed corn and barbed wire. There are also shiny Ford F-250 fourwheel drives that are play toys or used to pull horse trailors to Horse shows. I try not to judge but just to say what I see. The farm that surrounded our house in Carroll County that I woked on in the summer throwing hay bales and feeding cattle now is a bunch of houses. And the same thing is happening in FredCo

The farm just outside of Hampstead where I spent my younger years is still there, although it's no longer worked. The trees are taking it back over. Although I left long ago many of my relatives are still there. And we are rednecks from way back. My 2 older cousins worked at a rendering plant when they were teenagers and younger 20's.

Id say more like west clarksville and west, although like you said we do have ALOT of uppity rich people that live in the western half as unless you were given land/house it costs an arm and a leg to live in western howard.

While Ill agree that there are alot left in the county, there has been a HUGE up swing in richy rich boys driving mommy and daddys f450/550 blasting country music and dipping thinking they are "country" or rednecks. Sad to say the least and I bet they have never worked a farm a day in their lives. In the words of Justin moore "You ain't never slung hay from a second floor barn door"... While I never was a fan of quoting pop country its true. My step sister and her boyfriend are these people, they have more money then sense (he drives a full tilt f450 and she drives a full tilt tahoe both brand new) and while she works the horses neither of them have worked a farm past riding horses and cleaning stalls occasionally.

Southern Maryland identifies itself as rednecky. There are plenty of farms with horses in southern Anne Arundel and Calvert County.

Legalbeetle: "southern Maryland (yuck)"? Guessing your with the military then and got forced to live there.
