Have lived in Montgomery County my whole life besides four years spent in college in AZ and I'd say that description of the area is pretty spot on...I hate it here.

Why does it matter what type of cars people drive? A car doesnot describe a person. Its just a car. you might have folks who drive the most raggedy car and have the worst personality. If you judge people by their car, you might end up missing out of knowing some great people.

Default Customer Service and English fluency

There are people from all around the continent in the Metropolitan DC area. I would not want to single out just a couple of countries.
Oh I'm just giving Koreans and Indians as examples of well-off immigrant who come here. Nothing against them, and they even come LEGALLY!!!!! Personally as a minority myself and an Asian American I'm all for assimilation into American culture though. And related to the customer service, a lot of frustrations come from people at the supermarket or fast food places not being able to communicate well in English.

Last time at McDonald's they messed up my order. I told the woman 3 times that I wanted to use my coupon for the SAUSAGE McSkillet burrito and she STILL gave me steak. I spoke to the manager and told him that if those people cannot speak English, they should not be working in America or in a job that requires them to be fluent in English. I didn't ask him to replace my breakfast burrito because I didn't have time and didn't want to cause extra trouble for the staff there. A transplant from New Jersey, Long Island, or Connecticut would probably be cussing everyone out but I didn't. That's not how I was raised.

I also hate it when I'm in a new store and asking where stuff is stocked and nobody there speaks English fluently. This is America. If you dont' speak English then go back to your own country. This isnt' about your skin color or anything, if you want to function in our country and not cause problems like the ones I described above, you should learn to speak our language. I don't care what you speak at home or with your friends or when you're talking into your cell phone but when I need to interact with you when its part of YOUR JOB, you better speak English.

Best customer service comes from places that still hrie a lot of high school and college students. Young people are generally nicer and friendlier

The only place where you can find genuinely nice, friendly, down to Earth, everyday folks in Montgomery County are in Damascus and Poolesville.

Well a car does reflect somebody's personality....IF that car really stands out. I mean like a convertible with California plates driven by a blonde in sunglasses, the driver is probably a snobby airhead who perhaps is also a vegan.

People of certain personality types choose to drive Ford pickup, Chevy Silverados, the H3, Toyota Prius hybrids, and Escalades.

Then there's the definitely true thing about old people driving Cadillacs. I have never seen a Cadillac drive more than 5 miles above the speed limit.

And about cars, Montgomery County does have a LARGE number of luxury cars, regardless of how their drivers acquired them or whether they can truly afford them.

Germantown is still suburban but it has a rural mix in there. Outside of the Indian restaurant and Walmart, I didn't spend too much time up there.

Germantown is a part of Montgomery County. Please donot listen to what folks are saying about folks who drive benz because it is crazy that people judge an area base upon what type of cars residents drive. If folks work hard to live the life they want then so what, you donot have to be a part of their friends circle. I think its more have and havenots. The havenots donot want to live next to or close to the have because they might feel they didnot accomplish what the Mercedez Benz drivers have accomplish.
If i had the money to live in an 10,000 square feet home in beverly hills I would be living their right now. If I have the money to purchase a bentley, I would do it and so would the haters. Stop hating on others.
Its so funny we try our best to tell our children not to judge their friends or others but that is exactly what we are doing right now. Who drvies Benz I donot like them, snobby people I donot like, well maybe they donot like you either. we donot have to live like the jones, If they are driving benz you must be jealous the write a post about who are driving what car.

Although we can't generalize...unfortunately, as a generalized rule, yes, they are. It's a stragne, odd place.

I grew up in Montgomery County, Maryland - Wheaton, Rockville in the 60's and 70's, perfect "Wonder Years" suburbia back then. Towards the end of the 80's, I started feeling like I was living in a different "country" than the one I grew up in. There was no longer an inch of open space in Montgomery County where they were not building rows and rows of townhomes or strip malls. Everything became all about "status symbols", etc. you know, "yuppieville". Yuck. I later lived in Anne Arundel County for 10 years also, closer to Baltimore and Annapolis, and somewhat more laid back than Montgomery County. My children were born in Annapolis. I commuted on the Washington Beltway for the last year that I lived there for my job, what a living hell that commute was! I decided life wasn't meant to be lived like that, well, at least not my life.

Montanamon, definitely sympathize with you. I'm 22 and moved to Montgomery when I was 7, from Louisiana. I liked my childhood here but I don't like it here anymore. Especially after 4 years on the College Park campus, moving back home for a year was tough, seeing how everything's changed. We are becoming like New Jersey or California where every inch is paved over or has some kind of construction going on. I feel like to live the kind of life I want I have to move to another part of the country.
