There is a lot of truth above, but it is by no means exclusive to Montgomery county. You have described virtually every part of the region with an average household income over $75k/yr.

I guess it depends on what you're measuring. From the U.S. Census Bureau, August 2007:
Quote:
Maryland knocked New Jersey out of the top spot this year, while Mississippi and West Virginia were the poorest states in the Union.

Maryland is now the wealthiest state in the union, as measured by median household income, according to the latest stats from the Census Bureau.

The typical Maryland household earned $65,144 in 2006, propelling it past New Jersey, which came in second with earnings of $64,470, but had led the nation in 2005. Connecticut finished in third place both years, recording a median income of $63,422 in 2006.

Residents in Montgomery county are all over the county/State/Country/World.
How can you say Montgomery county is the only county in Maryland that have one type of people. People are the same all over the world regardless of income. We have poor rude people/rich rude people/middle class rude people. You cannot hide from rude, snobbing,Starbucks drinking people regardless of where you live in the United States.

I grew up in Mont Co.(Burtonsville)in the 70's. In the 70's Burtonsville was a little town with a few higher end homes, but mostly middle income ,horse farms, etc.It started to change alot in the 80's from what I remember. I Worked in Bethesda and Rockville in the mid 80's and lived in Gaithersburg and Poolesville. I moved out of that area in 1989 because it was getting to expensive to live in the area in the job market I am in.
I moved to Frederick Co. Md. for a few years, but it was getting more and more people from Mont Co. that wanted a slower pace. So then and now Frederick Co is getting filled. In 1997 I moved to southern Pa. I enjoy it here a slower pace and housing was affordable. But with more people doing what I did housing and other expenses are rising steadly. Guess it will be time to move further out in a few years. I will have to go back and visit Mont.Co sometime, see what has changed.

I think those ranking of "richest" states should take into account the cost of living (i.e., housing). I grew up in a dinky house in Kensington in the 50s and 60s which would cost about 400K now, and when my family lived in it, it was considered a lower middle-class neighborhood. Those houses aren't any nicer now than they were when they were new and affordable - in fact, last time I visited there a few years ago, they looked downright rundown. I now live in CA and it's the same way here. You can make a "good" salary in some of these states, and still not have much to show for it.

1) Yes, except for the people in the far left lane going 20 under.

2) Yes, but again this is not restricted to Montgomery County. Most of Northern VA / DC / Central MD is like this.

3) Yes, but with the same caveat as above.

4) Ah this is wrong. See, the Maryland snob seems to prefer a BMW, Lexus, or Infiniti. Mercedes seem to be falling by the wayside a bit.

5) Not sure on this one. But you will see lots of spoiled kids driving rather expensive vehicles. Go parenting!
