Military transfer to Indian Head - Help!
We are a military family transferring to Indian Head in January. I'll be working for Charles County schools (not sure which school yet), and my husband will be working at the base in Indian Head so we want to live somewhere that will be convenient for both of us. We are hoping to rent a house, is it possible to find a house in a decent neighborhood for $1300 a month? I've been checking craigslist and realtor.com's rental section, but it seems like I'm looking too early. I don't want to leave it to the last minute and not be able to find anywhere.
Has anyone seen the military housing at Indian Head? Is it houses or apartments?
If anyone has any questions about living in Hawaii, I'd be happy to answer

You could also check Virginia, just across the Potomac bridge down 301. I know plenty of CC teachers live there and commute to work, as do many people working at the base. The NSWC is also there. King George is very nice, plenty of room to grow.
I grew up in Cobb Island MD, which is also a great place to look (take 301s, turn left onto 257 about 2 miles before the Potomac bridge and follow for 11 miles). Plenty of waterfront homes, great neighborhoods, awesome place to raise kids. Should easily be able to find a house for $1300/mo or less rent. Might even be able to buy one for less than that. I know some great realtors in that area, if you need more info, just PM me.

Hi. Just wanted to throw in my 2 cents here! I also work for the schools in Charles County. I live in La Plata MD and it's about 25 minutes from Indian Head. La Plata is a nice town and close to shopping and restaurants. From what I've seen, there's not much in Indian Head! There are some nice townhomes and condos that have been recently built, but I think they cost a pretty penny. As far as renting, my house is $1500/month. I've seen several lower than that and I've also seen lots higher than that. The board of education actually has a housing list with available rentals if you want to try that. That's how I found my house. Call human resources and they will be able to connect you to the housing person. They emailed me a list of housing options when I moved here and it was very helpful. Hope that helps a little. Let me know if you have any questions.

At 1000 you will most likely need to look for a roommate situation. Rent a room or basement from someone. At 1300 you can probably swing an apartment. You are going to be hard pressed to find a home for rent in that price range. I would stick towards White Plains, La Plata area and not Waldorf.

there are some apartments available, although you may also want to look at on base housing or a roommate. For the shortest commute, you'd want to look at parts of nanjemoy, welcome, la plata, bryans road, and indian head.

You can find apartment for rent in decent area for $1,000 dollar. It might be a 1bedroom or you might be able to rent a condo for that price.
Check out Craigslist or Realtor.com
You can also look into Upper Marlboro area as well. I think Waldorf Might be a little bit cheaper then Upper Marlboro.

I will say right off the bat Waldorf is getting crowded but you have a better shot there and it's not a bad commute.LaPlata ,White Plain, Indian Head ,Bryan's Road....all good calls.I would contact a realitor in Charles county to help.

Seriously I would not purchase a home in Waldorf. When buying you look at the future investment and crimes/criminals are running to Waldorf due to the high increase of police/crack down going on in PG county/DC/Montgomery County and VA Criminals see Charles County as their escape.
