Moving to Catonsville
I am planning to move to Catonsville and was wondering if anyone is familiar with the area. I will be living near route 40 and Nuwood Road which is not far from Ellicott City and the Patapsco State Park. I know that it is a large city, but it has some unfavorable areas. Hopefully where I will be living will be placid.

Keeping in mind Catonsville's proximity to Baltimore means it is tainted by some of Baltimore's ghetto-tasticness, Catonsville isn't so bad. I lived there for about three months. BIG downside, at least for me: NO JOBS. Not there, not in Baltimore, not in any area within any reasonable distance.

Hopefully, I did not make a mistake.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts. Over 100 people read my post, but you were the only one kind enough to respond.
I just moved here about two months ago. It seems like a congested area. I surely miss historic Laurel. Yesterday, a state trooper was shot doing a house arrest. He is listed in critical condition. This is several miles from where I now reside. Hopefully, crime will not be much of a factor as I am close to Ellicott City. Many neighborhoods are changing in the Baltimore suburbs, resembling those of DC.
I hope and pray that my condo will be a good investment. Thanks again for your thoughts. It does seem like an affordable place to live.

Hey,
I just joined this website...wish I would have done so sooner. I just moved from Catonsville....its not a bad area, but its proximity to the city and the busline being so near is what often times make it appear to be congestion and crowded. Taking 40 E into the city - you will have to drive through Edmondson Village...definitely not a good neighborhood!! But once you get downtown near the Inner Harbor...its more tourisy. However, heading west on 40 going toward Howard County is good i.e. Ellicott City, Columbia, etc... These are very nice areas!!! If I could afford it - I would live there.
As for jobs..there really aren't any jobs in Catonsville. My commute is about 25 minutes in the morning and 45 minutes in the evening from downtown Baltimore...You picked a good area, but definitely Howard County should be the next step up for you...trust me you'll love Ellicott City Historic Area!!!
Oh and if you want to see the truly nice side of Catonsville - try to go to Catonsville Community College and behind the college is a community called College Hills....this is an area where the townhomes cost about 450K and up!! Wooded..Parks..nice place for raise a family or start one!!! It's beautiful!!

I've lived in catonsville for over 10 years, and you'll find it's a great place to live. About the crime, I've never heard of anyone have a real problem with it. I'm sure there are some problems from every now and then, but I've always felt safe. Some parts along 40, especially going into the city have their problems, but the heart of C-ville is friendly and safe. I hope you find that out as you settle in... that Cville is a great community, especially great for raising a family. Everyone is nice and wait until events like the 4th of july here or other holidays, especially through the main downtown part of Catonsville on Frederick Road, and the patapasco park is amazing.
about the jobs, there's always work to be found no matter where you live lol.
www.catonsvillepride.com (broken link)... it's a popular site of catonsville apparel and shows you how much people take pride of catonsville. hope this helps!

I lived in town next to Catonsville, showed some rentals to relocators.. It is close to Baltimore, but not too bad. I found most of the homes are bit older and outdated than some other areas nearby.

Catonsville Charm
Thats the charm of Catonsville. Who wants to live in one of these overpriced cardboard cutout homes that have too much house for thier postage size yards. Well I we can see there are plenty of mind numbed spoon feed people out there that buy into this "American dream" of I want mine to be bigger, newer, and better than everyone else, at the cost of throwing away and wasting perfectly good things that are not the lastest and greatest. And oh yeah, if it dosen't cost a lot then it can't be good. I hope one day people wake up and realize what greedy ravenous pigs we have become before it's too late.
