Smile going to Washington D.C.

Hi! Just moved here a few months ago and we have family coming to visit. We want to go to Washington D.C. Have heard from someone that you can take a MARC train or something to there but not sure from where or how it works.? We live in Rising Sun, MD. Thanks!

The Amtrak trains are probably the easiest. The one way fare is $28 from Aberdeen to Washington's Union station. Here's a link: Amtrak - Reservations - Fare Finder

The MARC train is cheaper, at only $10 one-way from Aberdeen to Washington. However it operates on a commuter schedule only Monday through Friday. The link is here: http://mta.maryland.gov/marc-train

If you're going on a weekday, MARC is your best option, just try to avoid rush hour when arriving/leaving so you're not crammed with the rest of us commuters. You should be able to pick up a MARC in either Aberdeen or Perryville, depending on the time and take it to Union Station in DC. Check the MTA website and check the MARC Penn Line schedule.

If its a weekend, I'm afraid your next option is either Amtrak or driving to a metro station, maybe Greenbelt? Or just drive into the city itself.

On the weekend the metro parking is free (at most stations). If you have several visitors, this may be the most economical on the weekend.
