The only reason Ehrlich won was because KKT was a complete screw up. By the way, what ever happened to her?

His presidential support of Clinton is a misleading statistic. Remember there are a lot of close to unanimous votes on procedural things, uncontroversial laws like Megan's Law and random ceremonial things like naming post offices and the like. A better indicator on the link you posted is his Party Unity, which is almost lockstep.

Party Unity

Year S O
1998 85 12
1997 89 11

1996 92 6
1995 89 10

Center-right wouldn't be an accurate term to describe him, that would be people like Arnold Schwarzenegger, Olympia Snowe, Rudy Giuliani and Colin Powell who are part of the right in that they generally believe in small government but will sometimes take a moderate or liberal tack on some issues. Ehrlich would be more like mainstream conservatives who the Tea Party seems to dislike but are nonetheless conservative Republicans. Here are the ACU scores of some Senators I'd lump Ehrlich in with -

Name ACU Lifetime Score
John Mccain 82
Lindsay Graham 89
Dick Lugar 77
Robert Bennett 83

Bob Ehrlich 83

These people are all enemies of the Tea Party and Lugar and Bennett lost their primaries to Tea Partiers. They are nonetheless conservative Republicans and they're only mentioned as "moderate" in the media because the Tea Party is way farther to the right on extreme social issues and cutting government spending in every single way. All the people I mentioned except Ehrlich would refer to themselves as conservatives. These people were conservative Republicans in the 80s and the Tea Party wing/ extreme right was Jesse Helms, Newt Gingrich and a few other guys. Now the far right is a much larger part of the party, probably more than half the Republicans in Congress. Bob Ehrlich would be considered much farther to the right than any leading presidential candidate/prime minister candidate in Canada, Europe or Australia from their mainstream center-right party.

Ehrlich doesn't fit the state, it's a left leaning state and he won on a fluke.

Thank you, by showing how Ehrlich's scores are comparable to Luger, McCain, and Bennett, you pretty much prove my point. All these guys are considered moderate Republicans by the standards of non-Koolaid drinker political observers.

I think your PERSONAL standards are much more similiar to the average Canadian, Europian, or Australian, all of which are socialist-light States. That isn't the American standard. It isn't the standard we use in our political dialogs in the USA. You are out of touch, on the left bank, whatever you want to call it.

I am sorry but what does any of this have to do with development in central Maryland. It sounds like this belongs in a politics thread.

Ignorance can't go unanswered, even if it is off-topic. Anyone who uses the term "normal liberal Republican" without a tongue firmly planted in cheek has no legitimacy to discuss politics. I suspect both Ds and Rs can agree on that.

I meant normal as in how normal people are liberal. Engaging in any rational political discussion with you or any other teabagger is completely fruitless so I'm not even taking the bait. Maybe go to Free Republic where you can spout your provincial uneducated rural nonsense with no challenge.

I think there already has been compared to what that area looked like even 30 years ago.

We may disagree on politics, but I would never be so audacious/ignorant to proclaim my positions as "normal." Kinda like how you call everyone in the I-95 cooridor "normal." If you are guys are "normal" what are the rest of us...oh... I forgot we are provincial uneducated rurals.

I bet I am more educated on politics than you.

Have you ever worked in a paid capacity for a political campaign.

Have you ever constructed a precinct level vote model.

Have you ever organized dozens of volunteers, made groomed lit drop lists from voter files, and successfully combined the voter's addresses onto maps so volunteers could hit hundreds of preselected likely voters in a few short hours of walking.

Have you done this for both REPUBLICANS and DEMOCRATS.

I have, and that is the short list.

You are out of your depth young man. Politics, campaigns and elections, and *gasp* even government is much deeper than your narrow view of the "normal liberals" vs. "ignorant rurals." See the big picture, not the partisan one. You talk about politics like middle schoolers talk about their favorite NFL teams. Grow up or post on boards more suited to your age group/level of understanding of politics.

A very ignorant thing to say bro. Do you say this to everyone who doesn't agree with you?
