For Transplants-A Poll (Baltimore, Frederick, Hagerstown: rent, car insurance, crime)

Simple question; given a choice to do it all over again, would you move to Maryland?

I'm mainly asking transplants that are comparatively recent, but not brand new arrivals.

NO, not (Chris tucker) never ever ever ever. If I move back to MD, then I have failed. I am from PG county, and I left a few months ago. Never going back.

Reasons:
1. Crime - PG County nuff said
2. COL - Car insurance cost damn near the car note, mortgages in PG arent that much cheaper
3. Taxes - Maryland higher than DC and VA - check went up more than the increase of rent of moving from MD to VA
4. Schools - (PG)
5. Commute - (Majority of jobs in VA/DC)

Not sure I qualify. I'm a Maryland native, moved to Nashville TN for 7 years, then moved back to MD this year for a combination of personal and job reasons.

I would do it again, there's only so many places in the country with as many job opportunities in my field as this area. That said, if I had to do it again I would better prepare myself for the cost of living increase, I wasn't really independent until I lived in TN, and got used to the low cost of living there. So moving here was quite a shock. Also, if the right situation arose, I'd consider moving back to the south.

I don't know if I qualify under your guidelines but if I could move back and live and work in Harford County and not have to do the daily commute to Baltimore City, then yes, I believe that I would seriously consider moving back to Maryland.

I lived in Maryland for 3 yrs (ND, TX, WA, GA before that). I would love to move back (in fact I'm visiting with my kids for 3 wks this summer as we live in TX now). It's expensive but you get what you pay for. Rolling hills, free activities all over, public transportation (along with the crazy traffic) etc.

I'd be willing to move to different parts of Maryland besides the DC suburbs (definitely Baltimore, probably Frederick, possibly Westminster, possibly Hagerstown) but I'd never want to the DC suburbs again because 1) I hate working for the federal government and the groupthink type thinking that is prevalent in the federal government (it's almost as bad as the insular, backward thinking that often occurs in ultra-conservative areas of the U.S., though obviously the way this thinking comes across is much different) 2) DC is an overrated, fake, joke of a city that has very limited local culture, and 3) the entire DC area is ridiculously expensive.

I've been here for 9 years and I don't like the crowds, the weather or the politics. I do, however, like the job market. Tough call; I met my husband here and have had some great times, but if I were to do it again I think I'd move out west.

To my surprise since I was desperate not to make the move here, yes. The only downside is the housing cost. The schools are far better, the job market is better, the scenery is better than I expected, the parks are great, and there are a lot of museums and activities for the kids.

As a MD native (I spent the first 22 years of my life there), I would not move back to MD without an amazing job offer. It is entirely too expensive and too crowded. It is a good place to visit, but I do not want to live there if I could help it.

I moved to Maryland a long while ago. I prefer Virginia, but if the right place is in Maryland, as it was this time, then yes, I would do it again. I said that I prefer Virginia, but not by very much. Not enough to move to the wrong place when the right place is in Maryland
