Cumberland, Maryland
Western Maryland is a great place to stargaze.

It gets dark enough that you can see man-made satellites in orbit around the earth. Not to mention the Milky Way in its glory and shooting stars. It makes you feel pretty small.

There isn't anything actually cool about Annapolis or Alexandria.
Tiger Beer appears to have quite a bit of $ judging from his jetsetting posts in pretty much every local forum on this site. If he has the kind of money to burn traveling all over the world, whos to say he cant afford a nice area. You shouldn't make fun of areas just because you can't afford them.

Actually, HandsUpThumbsDown is right. Looking for relocation in an area that is affordable. I'm definitely not made of money. I've only traveled a lot, because I have zero assets - no house, haven't owned a car in 15 years, and have slept on a lot of couches and hostel beds.

It also sounds like you got a pretty good driving tour of Western Maryland, even if you didn't have much time to explore on foot. WVU is a huge economic engine for Morgantown and the surrounding county, and one of the biggest cities in their mostly rural state. I like it too. It is neat to drive down into the city from the hills around it. It almost feels like going down into a ravine and finding a city. Johnstown has similar topograpy to Morgantown and is a cool little town, although it is more in line with Cumberland in terms of economic stagnation than Morgantown
Yep, REALLY liked CUMBERLAND. I wish I could have visited it more extensively. Had a canyon feel of businesses downtown, with the hills looking in the backgrounds. Had a very relaxing feel, especially after having come over some fairly large mountains coming from Hagerstown way. Speaking of which, I also liked Hagerstown as well. Maryland just has some great looking mid-size cities.

Glad also you found St Denis and Relay this time. I love that area. I've found Laurel to be pretty underrated as well.

I always said MARC from Frederick would work for me if I could work right near Union Station. So far, the opportunity has not presented itself.
St Denis / Relay was certainly a highlight!

I know what you mean about Frederick (and Brunswick as well, for that matter).

I wasn't making fun of them, I was just saying they aren't cool. I like Annapolis enough to go there a few times a year. But "cool?" Not to me. Dull without a lot of "energy." Same with OTA.

Everyone has a different opinion about what's cool so I forgive your choices.

What a boon it would be for both areas to speed up the CSX rail lines. Maybe before I'm dead.
