Default Eastern Shore -

Hi all -

I'm considering taking a position down at Wallops and am thinking about living in the Fruitland area. Google says the drive will be about 45 minutes from Fruitland to Wallops GSFC... can anybody confirm?

Also, does anybody have any experience in Fruitland? Is it safe? Is it family oriented, etc.

Thanks for your help!
Mike

I currently live in the Fruitland area. I think that it is a nice place to live. They are building a lot of different housing developments here. There is a sport complex here if you have children that participate in sports. I think that it is a nice place to live.

Don't think you have to worry about Fruitland being safe, boring but not dangerous. This area is still very rural in most aspects. People would have fallen over laughing if you said you were moving to Fruitland ten years ago.
The only negative I could think of is you neighbors might be a little too "shore" for you. Take a look at Ocean Pines before you buy. Traffic is bad during the summer especially Thursday through Sunday Night but shouldn't affect your drive too much. By the way it's a drive to work not a commute. Need to learn to speak "shore".

Thats not a positive. There is alot of crime around the college since most students are easy targets. The boring comment is true, since, despite the university being down the street, nightlife on the shore is nearly non-existent. There are no major sports teams nearby, few local entertainment venues(stand-up comedy, concerts, etc) and most anything to do is in Ocean City and will be closed during the off season. Most ppl are friendly but many have the typical narrow-minded shore mentality. Its a bit "different" but for some its great, for others its ok at best.

Didn't mean for it to be a positive... just informing that the location is close to a college. That should speak a little about the type of life (and night life) in the area.

There is a minor league baseball team in the area, which is a nice cheaper night out... Shorebirds are the single A team for the O's

Believe it or not Salisbury has the worst crime rate in Maryland. Even worse that Baltimore City. And its been bad here for years. And in the past couple years it's been getting even worse. Look it up. It's just not recognized as dangerous because its a smaller city. There's more safer parts of salisbury than dangerous parts but believe me there is some dangerous sections of salisbury that you should stay away from unless you live there or know people there. Not to say that Salisbury is a bad place to live because it's not. I'm just saying that you have to be careful around here. I got jumped about a week and a half ago by 4 dudes in one of the not so bad areas. Even though it was 2am that still doesnt happen in the average city of this size.

You got jumped??

Just curious, where? I live in SBY and agree that it has some raunchy areas. The crime is indeed pretty bad here. Violent crime & murder aren't too bad but just about anything else happens with regularity.
