Default maryland crabs!

New to the area, living in North Laurel. I have a friend coming down this weekend and we want to go to a good crab place, possibly an all-you-can eat and just sit there and eat good crabs for a few hours.

Can people recommend a good place for fresh crabs? Local to North Laurel is good, but I surely don't mind driving a bit.

Thanks!

A few years back when I lived in Laurel, we used to go to a really good seafood/crab restaurant between Rt. 1 North and Rt. 1 South across from the Laurel Race track, between I cannot recall the name of the restaurant, but I am quite sure it's still there.

The one you are referring to is Bottom of the Bay. It is good and reasonable. Its somewhat divey looking but it has a good reputation. Just stay out of the attached bar and liquor store. It is on Route 1 at the split, past Main Street but before Whiskey Bottom. There is a new development in that area now (condos and such). Wonder how long this little place will hold out with all the new cleaning up going on.

Gunning"s in Ann Arundel County ( I think ).
It is almost impossible to get the true blue crab anymore, unless you catch them yourself. Did have the real ones a couple weekends ago in Rock Hall though. They were goooood!

I'd suggest Cantler's in Annapolis. Prices are high, but it is so worth it. You get what you pay for. I know Cantler's are local. I believe Bottom of the Bay's are, too. Don't know about Jerry's.

Regarding all you can eat, I'm not a big fan. Most of the time you get the really small crabs and they take so long to pick I don't think its worth it. I've even been to a place that served all you can eat females. I don't care for females so that was a bit of a bummer to me. On the other hand, if I get a nice dozen I can only eat 2 or maybe 3. Something to keep in mind. I think you get what you pay for.

This is my favorite time of year to eat crabs. Nice and heavy and taste great.

Bottom of the Bay is always good- but I always order out, it's much easier to eat them at home.

Crabs are expensive - even on the Eastern Shore - but if you want to have the BEST crabcakes EVER I would suggest:

Timbuktu Restaurant & Lounge, Maryland :: Seafood : Steaks : Chicken : Crab Cakes

Very close to Laurel.

Should you feel like heading "across the bridge" (take 32 east to 97 South to 50 East)

Harris Crab House & Seafood Restaurant 410-827-9500 Grasonville MD

Come for a Sunday lunch - leave EARLY - trip will take less than an hour each way

Good Eats!

I've never been to Harris, but I'd love to try it one day. The absolute BEST cream of crab soup is just over the bridge as well, at Kentmorr Inn. We drive out there from HoCo, just for the soup- I've had a lot of cream of crab soup, but none as good as theirs!
