I am moving from Boston to MD, I am single woman, a registered Nurse, moving with my 2 kids boys 15 and 9. I am caught between Rockville and gaithersburg, which city is better between the 2. will be working between Rockville hospital and Washington hospital center. I will use metro to go to DC. Please help on the choice of cities I understand they close to each other.

If you live in Rockville, you will have more options for the Metro. In Gaithersburg, you only have the Shady Grove option (which is ok, if you live in King Farm).
I used to commute to WHC by Metro and took the free shuttle from the Brookland Metro stop. Richard Montgomery is a good high school for your 15 year old. I don't know where he/she would go if you live in Gaithersburg. I don't know Rockville Hospital. Do you mean Shady Grove? |

I would pick Rockville. The schools are better and the commute into DC is shorter.

For the sake of commuting, I would also go with Rockville. You would have easier access the the Metro, which would reduce your commute.
However; if you do look in Gaithersburg, stick to zip code 20878 AKA North Potomac. This area has good schools (on par with Rockville) and has easy access to Shady Grove Hospital and metro stop. |

Rockville would be the choice if you want to be close to things to do without having to drive all the time. Good for the teen. Lots of choices for activities. And good schools.
Gaithersburg is nice but I always felt like I had travelled forever. (yeah, I'm in Ak now but spent most of life in DC and surrounding area) |

I grew up in the area. Given the choice, I would pick Rockville with Richard Montgomery or Wooton as the better high schools.

Rockville, hands down.
Check out Rockville Town Square as well. An amazing streetscape with great stores like the soon to be opened Super Fresh, nice restaurants, and convenient shopping. |
