I have been in Maryland for a while now and have yet to get a Maryland DL. If you curious as to why, it is because my current DL had a decent amount of time left on it before it expired and I thought I would have moved back to that State by now. As it turns out, I will be in Maryland for a while longer and my DL is going to expire in March.

Anyways, as with all things with the MVA, the fees are rather confusing. Simply put, how much will it cost to transfer my out-of-state DL to Maryland?

Here is what I found on their website:

Driverís License (new resident - $9.00 per year)

$72.00*

Technically I am not a new resident, but what does "$9.00/year" mean?

If you are getting a Maryland license for the first time as a new resident, you will pay $72. Your license will be good for eight years and they won't let you pay for any fewer. I was shocked when I went to turn in my Delaware license and found out I had to pay so much, but I got mine right after they raised the rates in October.
