Hello all,
Might be moving and working at Ft Meade, MD. Which city would be better to live in considering the crime rate and traffic: Odenton or Laurel? Or? I want a short commute, in an area that has low crime.
Any input is welcome. Thank you.

I'd vote for Odenton, esp if you can afford to buy a single family home. If you are renting, the new apartments in Odenton (Seven Oaks, Piney Orchard) are advertised as luxury places. They are $1400-1500 for one bedroom.

Laurel has cheaper places, but you need to check crime rates with something like spotcrime.com .

Odenton is where I would go between these two places.. Parts of Laurel has alot of crime and is just not a place I would like to call home the commute from Odenton to Baltimore would be quicker as well..

Yeah as a former resident of Laurel I'd agree with Odenton. My neighborhood was fine but the surrounding areas were not.

This may be a silly follow-up question, but if I lived in Odenton and worked in Ft Meade - can I drive my car to work? How long would it take?
Thanks again.

A few minutes. It's a short drive.

Since Odenton is right next door to part of Fort Meade, the answer is "it depends". It could be 5 minutes or twenty depending on where you live and where you work.

You should really be asking your HR department about parking and driving on base. But here's a transportation guide that may help: http://www.ftmeadealliance.org/image..._2011final.pdf Note, there's a shuttle bus from the Odenton MARC station.
