Honestly, Southern-ness of MD depends on what you consider Southern and where you've been to/lived in Maryland. No right or wrong answer.

I believe Maryland is a southern state also but in todays time Mid Atlantic would be the best description.

Maryland isn't Southern. Redneck and Southern aren't the same thing.

Maryland is not a 'Southern' state. It is a state with some regions that show similarities with 'Southern' states. And judging by the joke of a Republican Party in the state, it would be a safe wager that these 'Southern' regions are relatively few and/or insignificant.

That said, Marylanders better stop calling me Mr. [First Name]. That is straight up 'Southern' trashiness language syntax.
