Hi All,

I recently moved to Maryland and I am in need of hernia surgery. I would very much like to use a good surgeon and was wondering if any of you could share some advice or perhaps have any recommendations? Any suggestions would be much appreciated! If it helps, my insurance policy is Blue Cross Blue Shield.

Thank you so much in advance,
Sam

What part of Maryland are you living in? You should not have to go far to find a decent abdominal surgeon. I'd start with getting a referral from your family doctor.

When we evaluated it for my husband, we looked at St Agnes Hospital in Baltimore County. We had to pay a large deductible then, and that hospital was decent and had more reasonable costs.

Thank so much for your reply. We live in Rockville. We only recently moved and did not yet get the chance to "choose" a family doctor... It's just that I'm at the very beginning and haven't a clue where to start look for a decent surgeon. I will definitely look into St Agnes Hospital, thank you again.

Well, if you were looking for pediatric I'd give you the name of the guy did did my kids' hernias. But by coincidence, he's on this list (though I got the recommendation from a pediatrician) and you might want to look at one of the general surgeons on this list: Top Doctors 2010 | Baltimore magazine

My husband went to Eric Oristian with an office near Wheaton Mall and another at the Randolph Medical center in Rockville. He did not have surgery the doc, but I think the doc will give you an honest opinion.

Regarding a hospital, Dr. Oristian is affiliated with Holy Cross. If you have decent insurance, there is no need to consider another hospital for cost reasons.
