Hello!

I have a sister-in-law who is thinking about moving to the Anne Arundel county area. She and her husband are well-off and are looking for a nice area with safe communities and good schools, both academic and athletic.

I grew up on the Eastern Shore (Centreville, Md) and as I recall St. Mary's was a good Catholic school in downtown Annapolis. I also recall that Severa Park had some good academic and athletic programs as well.

And other suggestions or am I on the mark? They would like to buy waterfront or water-access (money isn't much of an issue with these folks).

Any suggestions would be great! Thanks.

I live in the Severna Park area and love it. We are in a water privileged area on the Severn River. Severna Park has good schools as does Arnold and both have water privileged areas with lots of waterfront homes to choose from. There are many athletic programs in Severna Park to choose from. One of the organizations is the Green Hornets which has basketball, soccer, lacrosse, baseball, etc. to choose from. She is welcome to send me a pm if she would like more information on neighborhood recommendations, etc.

My three recommendations would be Severna Park, Davidsonville, and Crownsville. Most homes in each city $750k+. Also, there are no townhomes or apartments in any of these locations except for some age-restricted condos. Crownsville is where I live, I am single, so I never had to take schools into consideration... admittedly, Severna Park and Davidsonville have much better school systems.

If money REALLY isn't a factor, you may also want to see if any properties are available in the Downs (technically Annapolis, near Sherwood Forest) or Wardour near the Naval Academy - these two neighborhoods have some of the most gorgeous views and great boating access.

They should be very happy with any of these choices. I moved to Crownsville from Rockville about a year ago and have no regrets - even though I work in Bethesda. It's safe, people are friendly, I am in a water priveleged community - you really can't beat the best parts of AA county anywhere in the country.

Good luck!

Hi- can you tell me what kind of commute you have to get to Bethesda. The family and I have been contemplating such move but I dread the commute back here.

If money isn't really an object, I think you're on the mark looking in the Annapolis area. I grew up there and really loved it. It has so much to offer in addition to it's beautiful waterfront location. There are so many great waterfront communities in the area, inlcuding: Bay Ridge, Eastport, Arundel on the Bay, Epping Forest, the Downs. The best advice would be to drive around and see what they like.

All of the above mentioned communities are water front, safe and family oriented. There are many local private schools that offer great atheltics (in some cases it depends on the sport). While I'd love to be a perponent of the public schools in the area, I am a graduate of one, they have been on a steep decline lately in reference to academics, athletics and steeply inclining with violence. I have a lot of love for the school I graduated from but it's simply not the same place. In addition there are many programs dedicated to youth sports in the area, although lacrosse probably gets the most attention and success in the area.

Hope this helps, good luck and if you have any other more specific questions I'd be happy to try and answer them.
