mid/late 30's upper middle interracial family
we are secular and not into any politics. we stay in our own world for the most part. we live for wegmans and trader joes and whole foods. not being able to live near water would be a deal breaker. for this and many other reasons, annapolis is where we plan on moving to within a year.
a few years ago, we lived in bmore for a year. am currently in the midwest for family

looks like there are some good secular schools in the area there, public and private
quality libraries mean a lot to us
to some degree, we feel as though it would seem somewhat remote, compared to what thigns would feel like back in where we are from, philly, but i expect it to be in a good way
i will be relocating with work to camp hill ...with an option of working at an office at windsor mill and 695
maybe you have a suggestion there based upon expected traffic?

thanks for your help
i have so many questions...they will all eventually come to me
annapolis looks like the way to go for us, but with every choice, there is a way we all pay...the things to tolerate or downsides
i dont know what they are, but i need to so i can have realistic expectations
thank you

It's a long drive to Windsor Mill, but do-able. I'd suggest working the early hours if possible, like 7-3. The 695 traffic is heavy.

You have to be very careful about where you live in Annapolis if being left alone is a priority. Avoid any area that Historic Annapolis has any jurisdiction over. Historic Annapolis runs their portions of Annapolis with an iron fist and they aren't afraid to use it. Even living outside of HA's jurisdiction can be trying. I have seen protracted lawsuits over such silly things as fences. If you have a sidewalk in front of your house you are responsible for it's maintenance and upkeep. You are responsible for clearing the snow off of it, even after the city has plowed a 3 foot tall wall of ice onto it. And they aren't afraid to ticket you for failure to clear it.

The City micro-manages everything. Right down to the gender and number of chickens should you decide you would like your own fresh eggs every morning.

There are many nice communities right outside of Annapolis that are under the jurisdiction of Anne Arundel County. Although the county can also micro-manage, it's not nearly as bad as the city.
