Who got "nerved up"? We're just trying to help. But it's clear your friend is a big Baltimore fan and is trying to steer you in that direction. As for the post who said you either love or hate Baltimore I am the exception, completely Baltimore neutral. I just don't see cheap boarding and a big city as a match.

I'm going to throw a red herring into the mix:

Spokane, Washington

There's a city that's up and coming, very close to northern Idaho and Montana, lots of horses and I'm sure the style is Western and the board is cheap.

Just to make a juxtaposition and shift the focus for comparison.

It's all good. I see all kinds of things on this site. It'll will be interesting to see what path I take......Thanks. The one thing I have decided is not negotiable...I won't do another place with 6 months of winter. And I mean Rocky Mountain/Buffalo/Michigan kind of winters.

Maryland's source for horse information and news: The Equiery – News & Views

Maryland equine-related stats

Primarily English, but there are some to western barns also in Maryland. Call The Equiery at 1-800-244-9580 to find western stables (this is a free service, and all the western barn options will be provided). Most of central Maryland (including Baltimore) is a one hour drive into Washington, which has the Kennedy Center and enough culture to keep you busy. Hospitals and medical centers galore, from Hopkins to the Bethesda Naval Medical Center to University of Maryland Shock Trauma.

Good luck! Let The Equiery know when you are arriving and they will send you a "welcome to the Maryland horse world" package!
