We are probably moving in late summer to the Baltimore area, and have a child with autism. What public school districts are recommended (or should be avoided!!) for autism special education? The job is in the Milford Mill area, but we don't mind a commute of 60-90 minutes if it's worth it for good schools and good neighborhoods. Some have also suggested we look at PA, so all input would be appreciated.

Howard County has a reputation for being one of the most supportive school districts for students with autism. They have a very well organized Howard County Autism Society that works closely with HCPSS.

The Kennedy Krieger Institute also works with students in Anne Arundel County and Baltimore. They were one of the recommended behavioral health providers when my son needed testing, and I was very impressed with what I'd heard and read about them.

Hopefully one of those links will hook you up with folks who know more about autism resources available in the state. Best wishes and welcome to Maryland.

No direct experience... but I'm told that Baltimore COUNTY does very well.
