I just took a job where I spend half my time at Fort Meade and the other half in Crystal City. I have a big family, school age kids, and have always had a big yard. Where's the best place to live so I don't spend my entire life in the car driving to work? Trying to keep the mortgage around 2200-2500.

Splitting the distance would put you in Beltsville or College Park. You probably would not find the large yards nor the good schools you want. I suggest buying near Fort Meade to keep half of your commute good.

Find a decent school district in Odenton or Crofton. Then take the MARC and Metro to Crystal City. (The Metro is easier than driving to CC anyway because of the difficulties with parking there.)

What they said... Odenton and Crofton have what you are looking for. Plus they have a Marc Station (Bowie State Marc Station) in Crofton and (Odenton) in Odenton.

Also look into Laurel, the Anne Arundel County Side which has Russett Community is really nice with SFH and the schools are good also, its 5-10 drive to Ft Meade 198 runs into 32 which takes you to Ft Meade at the next exit. The MARC Station is Laurel Main St OR Laurel Race Track.

All MARC Stations have free parking which is cheaper than parking at Metro.

Unless the employer provides paid and reserved parking in Crystal City, it will be less hassle to take the train. I have worked in Crystal City, and parking is a bear.
