Hello, i am looking at moving to Lamham and have checked some places up. Saw a place on Chervil Road. Was wondering if the area is safe and how close is it to shopping centres/Lanham city centre? Also is Lanham an area i can move around without a car? Walk most times or bus?

Uh- around Chervil Road, I see dozen of thefts, 3 assaults, a robbery and several burglaries on spotcrime. Draw your own conclusions about safety.

Bus maps are available through the metro site (WMATA) , and I believe you can get buses taking you to the metro stop.

You can also use Google maps to check distances. Shopping does not seem to be abundant. There is a 7-11 half a mile away, and grocery store 1.5 to 2 miles away. You can even ask Google maps to give you the bus route to the grocery stores, if available. I just checked the directions to the Safeway on Greenbelt Road, and yes, you can walk a bit and get the G14 bus to the Safeway from Chervil Road.

I think there are 3 shopping centers in 3 different directions. The closest is probably the one on Cipriano and Greenbelt Rd. I don't know if I would recommend walking there though. I suppose it's okay during the day.

Old Greenbelt is a safer and nicer walk-able community near public transit.
