Halethorpe, MD - - Please Reply Soon I'm Running Out Of Time!!
Hi All,
I was hoping if someone could give me some insight on the Halethorpe (21227) area. Like how is the area schools, crime rate (general safety) and are the people friendly. I will be moving soon (into a house) and this place seems to be economically. So any information that could be offered soon, would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for your assistance. Take Care!

I'm unaware of any particular bad news on the area. It's generally a settled area, not a lot of turnover. The natives are generally friendly, but there are cranks in every location, every city. Working class folks there for the most part, a mix of all ages. Baltimore County Public School system, and I've no experience with them. No major criminal activity that I'm aware of, info on crime should be available at the Wilkens Ave substation of the BCPD.
I posted more info on Halethorpe in this forum. Use the Search Forum tool, and search on the term Halethorpe to find it.
Stick to the Arbutus side of Halethorpe, north of Washington Blvd.
For a walk to MARC station, get near Southwestern Blvd, aka alternate US-1.

I had a grandmother who lived in Halethorpe, plus I used to play baseball in Arbutus and I went to college at UMBC, in between Catonsville and Arbutus. It's not a bad area, but a lot of the homes in the area have not been well-cared for. Pretty safe, working class area, Mike knows it better than I do.
But on the downside, the schools are not that great. If you can swing a bit more financially for a house or apartment, try Elkridge - Howard County schools can't be beat.

Lansdowne / Riverview / Baltimore Highlands was always a TOUGH place, lived there 1966-74. Mom was there 1966-2002. I visited Mom there every weekend. Sister still there. Very working class. Rowhomes in that area are 2-story, flat-roof, no basement things, old, tiny, nowhere to park and very tough types. Not even a good long term investment as an overflow location for DC, that's where Arbutus and Halethorpe shine. Avoid Lansdowne / Riverview / Baltimore Highlands area. Much nicer places and people in Arbutus or Halethorpe. Don't overlook PKOONS advice about Elkridge, much of which is decent and you get better schools in Howard County.

I grew up in Halethorpe, have not lived there for 14 years but my parents still do. It is pretty safe, just the usual bike stealing or a shead broken into everyone in awhile. My parents have lived there for 40 years and they have never had a problem. Most of the families in Halethorpe have lived there forever. The schools are not that great but there are a few private schools in the area. I have very fond memories of growing up there and the Arbutus 4th of July parade is something that I travel home for every year no matter where I am in th world because I feel it has such a small hometown feel.
