I want to leave for north Jersey. Everyone bashing it is just ignorant.

Maryland climate - pretty much sucks too humid, nasty snow

Maryland people - rude, in rural and city areas, they are also very racist and know NOTHING about the outside world but act haughty

Maryland traffic - horrendous, people drive awful as well which compounds it. You will be driving fine, but some idiot in a pick up truck or a tinted car will cut you off and flick you off as if YOU did something wrong.

Maryland food - the worst. Fake Italian food, fake Irish pubs, fake Indian food, fake German food, fake Thai food, fake everything. The worst thing is people will say we have such a wonderful and diverse cuisine!!! Whatever. Only if you go to Bethesda and pay out of your butt.

In conclusion the place stinks. Sorry but I've been around the world, seen poor, rich and good and bad and Maryland the place I lived for most of my life is the absolute worst.

Maryland isn't the greatest state. It used to be but now it isn't. Its full of rude ignorant people. I am trying to leave here as soon as possible. The traffic is unbearable. And I have lived here all my life.

I have lived in Maryland for almost seven years. We experienced the side nearer to DC first, then we moved to the Eastern Shore for more quiet. But people here are like going back in time--and I could write a book about the racism. I have never seen such racist people in my life, and I grew up in the Mid-South and went to school in Louisiana where you would expect to see rampant racism. I have met a few nice people, but not enough to want to stay. My husband and I have had enough. We're moving to Texas as soon as school lets out in June.
And before anyone talks about "there's no racism on the Eastern Shore," there is nothing you can tell me--my husband endured way more than I could with racial epithets, threat of violence, called a "chicken-necker" for being professional and not from here (that's what they call people who are from out of state or across the Chesapeake Bay bridge). My husband stood his ground and managed to talk, coerce, or curse people out of whatever it was they were trying to pull with him several times--once he showed lack of fear of them those numerous times, they would back off everytime. I, on the other hand, was scared to death each day for him to go to work because of them. He got away from there eventually, but that was the nail in the coffin for us--lots of ghettos and ghetto behavior on one side of the bridge, and 100 years backwards and reminiscent of slavery on the other. Some people are okay, but not enough of them.
I hope that no one is too mad at what I said, but this is a short version of what we've experienced here. I won't look back when we move.

My husband and I almost moved out of Maryland to Raleigh, NC. We are both from NY, me not from the city, him from Brooklyn. We went down to Raleigh 3 times to visit, and there just wasn't enough to do there. After really evaluating our situation we decided to stay in Maryland for many reasons. We like being close to the beaches, DC and Baltimore have a lot to offer. There is always something to do. I live in Anne Arundel County and the traffic here is not bad. Also someone made a post about gangs, there are gangs in and around Baltimore and outside of Dc in the Maryland part...that definitely doesn't define Maryland. If you think you are going to move to another city and they are not going to have gangs, good luck with that and send me an email letting me know. Because Raliegh has gangs and they are starting to get out of control. Best of luck for those that are leaving, but I am staying Hopefully O'Malley will be out of office in 3 more years, I have learned you can't keep moving because you have a poor governor, if that is the case I would be moving every 5-10 years. Just keep this in mind if you decide to leave based on money reasons, you get what you pay for

Are you kidding me?! I'm not knocking you but Jersey is wayyyy more expensive than Maryland and looks like a tornado hit it (depending on where you go). At least what you pay for an apartment here you get more quality than there, and owning is nearly impossible with their property taxes. I loved being close to NYC and working in NYC and the things it was to do there and the food (yes I agree with you on the food) but I couldn't live there ever again. PSEG killed me in the summer and winter and I wouldn't raise kids in North Jersey. I lived in Bergen and Essex County and although I prefer Bergen County it's still too much! If I was single and no kids it would be different, but then again I'd just choose to live in New York... Just my opinion! BTW I miss getting dim sum and west indian food and the chinese bakeries... *sigh*

You think Salisbury has a high pace lifestyle??? There is absolutely nothing fast about anything on the shore. Certain parts of the shore are a huge step back into the past, which IMHO isnt a good thing. The shore is a great place to visit but living here will have you wondering how its survives with all the rampant stupidity that is around.

Trust me when I say you have an accurate depiction of the state. And the "beauty" about it is that the U of MD gets BOTH of these elements, along with the snobbish and rude people from the uber-rich and uber-preppy parts of this state. And it's so ironic that the out-of-state people this school tends to attract (specifically, those from New Jersey and New York) heavily resembles the rude, snobbish, ghetto, and bigoted attitudes from most in-state students who attend this school.

I'll tell you why I would never ever reside in the state of Maryland, but I’m not looking to write a novel that would rival War and Peace.

The top reasons why I would leave Maryland

1. Racism. I have never experienced or seen so much racism in one state in my life and to validate this experience i have lived all over the US. Maryland is a whole racist state on to itself. I would rate whites as the biggest racist in the state, but black are definitely a close second. It is just plain sickening the level of racism in this state.

2. Militant Blacks - If you're a normal black person (not the stereotype depicted by the white liberal media and militant blacks) you have no chance of hell of surviving in certain areas in Maryland. These people will seek you out and destroy you! God forbid you are a black that thinks for themselves and does not buy into this black power bs. This group while not necessarily destructive to whites (although they cause a lot of race tension between the groups) is wholly destructive to young black males.

3. Poor whites and middle class whites (militant ones)- The level of hate and bigotry amongst this group rivals that of the militant black groups and they contribute too as much divisiveness to both blacks, jews, and any other non white group. The only thing i do like about this group is they are not remotely PC about anything, so if they do not like you they have no problem of telling you why.

4. Pseudo Snobby elite. Maryland is full of barely upper middle class people that think they're wealthy or rich, but I’m not even going to give them the dignity of saying noveu riche. These are the people that make 100,000 to 250,000 and act like they're Bill Gates. They have no wealth whatsoever, but have these attitudes like they are so much wealthier than they really are. They live in Darnestown and call it North Potomac lol you know the types. They grew up economically lower middle or middle and toward the end their childhood their parents finally got that promotion that propelled them into the upper middle class economically, so they just expose racist and extremely classist views on everything. People do not confuse this group with the wealthy of Maryland, because they are not part of that group.

5. Stereotypes generated by and controlled by the black militant groups and the white lower and middle class. I have never seen or heard anything to this level in any other state. Granted I have lived in the northeast, Midwest, and south and the stereotypes that exist for groups in Maryland is much worse than in other places.

6. Crime!

7. Cost of living for what you get in most areas

8. Traffic and overpopulation in the metro areas

These are just my main reason I would never live in this area ever or reside in this state ever!!!
