I'm Looking To Move. My Moms Family Is Orginally From Md, But I Personally Am Looking To Make A Move Within The Next Year Or Two Tops. Its Extremely Expensive And When I Think About What I'm Getting For My Hard Earned Money Its Just Not Worth It.

Headed out west this fall...between the taxes and fees picking away at my nest egg and the sheer aggrivation of people/drivers and congestion Ive had enough.
My family has been here since 1634 but Im ready to try somewhere else.

What exactly does a retiree do? Western Maryland is full of outdoor recreation, hiking, biking, boating, fishing, hunting. Cumberland has a professional theatre, and Allegany College and Frostburg State put on plays every weekend. Today's Cumberland paper had over 5 pages of local bands, music recitals, festivals, and other activities going on and that is just this weekend. There is no shortage of things to do, you just have to know where to look.
Oh, and did I mention how cheap it is to live in Allegany County. Our median home price is about 100k. A lot of retirees are heading west for just these reasons.

A lot of retirees aren't in good enough health for those sort of outdoor activities. How often is a 70-year-old going to charge up a mountain? Some people can do this, but the vast majority aren't up to it, and don't want to do it. And many, many people don't wan to go out and kill things (hunting, fishing) every time they feel bored. I think you just made the other poster's point.

Jeeze, why would a young, single person want to move from DC to NC? NC is family-central. Single people almost don't exist in Charlotte. I've heard that the banks actually have trouble moving single people down here from New York because they feel so isolated down here. Why don't you get a roomate or two and move into the city? Or Arlington? Or Silver Spring? You can move to NC when you're old and married. Right now is the time to live small, meet other people, and have some fun.

Sorry....didn't mean to go on. What I am looking to find is a place to move that has low humidity, but does not get too hot in the summer.
My husband loves it here and refuses to move, so I may be solo, which means a lower income.
Anyone have any suggestions?

Try eastern Oregon. It's rather desolate, but definitely dry, and way cooler (temperature-wise) than Phoenix.

I'm Not The Roommate Type Personally, But Personally I Don't See What That Would Solve.. Why Would You Suggest I Move To Dc, I Don't See Why Anyone Would Move To Dc Unless They Were Buying Property. Currently I'm Renting, When I Move From The Area I'll Be Ready To Buy. I'm Focusing On My Career I'm Beyond Trying To Get My Groove On Thats Not Apart Of Who I Am, And I Damn Sure Wouldn't Move To An Area Simply To Party, Lol..

People live with roomates because it's cheaper than not living with roomates. I was suggesting that living in a good place (DC) with a roomate was better than living in a crappy place (NC) by yourself. I take it you disagree.
Why would you think people should move to DC if they're buying property but not just to live? That doesn't even begin to make any sense.
Single people like to live around (and hang out with) other single people (1) for fun, and (2) to find someone to marry so they're not single anymore. If you haven't caught on to that by now, I think you might be single for a long, long time.
Go ahead and move to NC. It looks like it might suit you just fine.

Are You From The Greater Washington Metropolitan Area, I Ask Because If You Did I Doubt You'd Have Said What You Did About My Not Making Sense. They Are Making Strides To Bring The City Up So Alot Of People Have Bought Property In Dc In Recent Years And It Will Surely Pay Off In The Long Run. Dc Is Alot More Expensive And Has A Much Higher Crime Rate Than Md, So Ask Yourself Why Would I Move There. You Tell Me What About That Makes Sense...
So In Order For Me Not To Grow Old And Alone I Must Get A Roommate, Lol.. Please I'll Be Just Fine. I Haven;t Been Single For Long And To Be Honest Thats Not Even A Thought When It Comes To Where I Move Meeting People Is Not A Problem I've Ever Had. Finding A Safe Area Thats Affordable, Not A Half Days Commute To Work And Offers The Amenities That I Desire Is Much More Important Than Being A Block Away From Diddys Next Homecoming Party At Hu, Lol..

I am getting out! I am 3rd generation of MD residency, born and raised in PG County now living Baltimore City. My husband and I are relocating to the Tampa, Fl area. We love the warmth and tropical feel that florida offers.
Like most people on this board has stated - Maryland has become way overcrowded, expensive with lots of crime. The farmers are selling out and they are constantly cutting down the trees and building new houses, apts and shopping centers on any inch of land they can get their hands on but are not building roads.
The only time if your lucky if there's no construction you will not have congestion is between 2 and 4 am.
Before you know it (we are almost there) it's going to be one big city skyline from Baltimore to DC to Frederick.
Plus on a personal political note - I really can't stand the governor, I liked him at first when he was my Mayor when I first moved to Baltimore but 2 years in I no longer cared for him.

Your second paragraph just described the Tampa Bay area. I take it you're moving here more for the year-round warmth than anything else.
