Tampa Bay area population is estimated a little over 300,000. Baltimore alone is estimated a little over 650,000. And yes, the year round warmth is a big part of it. |

My husband, our two little boys, and I left Maryland (AACO) in late summer 2006. We're ready to move back and working on a job transfer for him right now to do so. We jumped on the "lets move south" bandwagon and it didn't pay off. Things are not the least bit cheaper here and EVERYONE from up north is now moving to the Charleston area which just keeps adding to the traffic, lines, trash, ect.
I'll be pleased to move back, however, we will not be looking to live in AACO. We will be living in Western Maryland. |

I moved to Mont. county from So Cal a few years ago due to job reasons. I regret it and am trying to find a way back to the west coast at this moment. The first year was not so bad, but this year has just been so depressing...Winter is just plain gloomy, spring is just full of teaser days of good sunny AM weather followed by late afternoon torrential downpours, summer is just too humid. In terms of lifestyle and amenities, I would probably compare Maryland to the Bakersfield of California. You have your pockets of crime, nice communities, and attractions, but overall nothing really to get excited about.

Im new to forums but yes, I too will be leaving Maryland in the summer months. I am a native Delawarian, however, I have always loved Elkton. I am moving to Arkansas because its one of the top five lowest cost of living areas in the country and my husband's family is down there. Im not all that excited about leaving the Northeast region, but hey, Im trying to make a difference for my family and there are better opportunities in Arkansas.

Even though I wasn't born in Maryland, I've practically spent my entire life in good ol' MD. I'm sick of the same people and the same atmosphere. Even though I live in the suburbs, I'm around 30-40 minutes away from Baltimore and Washington DC. Prime location but I really do not like large cities and want to spend the rest of my life in a place with a smaller community.
Definitely moving in a couple years depending on how career opportunities out West. How far West is the question, I've been seriously contemplating Alaska for a while now and Texas as my second choice. |

I have lived in MD for 15 years; 9 of them in Severna Park. There is a strong community here, good schools, lots of water-oriented activities (which is to my taste) and nice people. Some of my best friends live on my street. I am well-paid to do analytically challenging work in an extraordinarily family-friendly, flexible environment. My commute to DC is on average 50-55 minutes -- not bad for 32 miles out of a major metro area. I have never had a problem with crime, drugs, gangs or any of the other things people have sounded off about - maybe I am just lucky, but I don't think so. I was raised on the north shore of Long Island so I know all about The Jones -- for the most part, they don't live here. On the rare occasions I run into them, I just laugh. It's all about perspective, Grasshopper.
We are leaving in a few weeks for NH due to my husband's relocation -- and I am sure that living there will be better in some ways and not as good in others. There is good and bad *everywhere* -- to a large degree, life is what you make of it. Choose to be happy, people. It's that simple. ymmv, of course. |

I've lived in MD for over 13 years and we've decided to move out from MD next year. The cost of living is awful and I hate the weather here. I think I'm having a "I've had it" moment here. We are thinking about moving to Colorado Springs, but we are open to a few options.

Well I've lived in MD most of my life and grew up in P.G. county. I like P.G. and the potential of becoming a great place. It's just you have to deal with inadequate leadership whose main goal is investing into business instead of our kids (P.G. county school is one of the worst in the state). I've recently started feeling the need to look south, mainly because I'm tired of 1hr and 15min drive to work. I'm frustrated with the fact that P.G. has high taxes, which on top of house prices have pushed me into Charles County. Personally I think maryland is a great place to live and raise a family, but I want to be able to move to a place where my life isn't consumed by my commute. I want to live where house prices don't neccesarily require two incomes. I'm just plain tired. If it weren't for those things I would be truly happy living here. However I guess I'm at a point where a change needs to come in my life.
