I work at BWI airport but I want to buy a home in the 200-275k range. I'd prefer a less than 45 minute commute. I'm currently renting in Crofton but it's too crowded and I need space. What areas and what types of homes am I looking at? What's the best place to browse for homes online?

You might look in Carroll County, but that is a fairly low price range. The closest areas are Sykesville, Eldersburg and Mt Airy. I suggest using Realtor.com Zillow.com or redfin.com . They all allow you to select a price range and area. They all also have searches using a map.

Okay, I think my first post got eaten, so apologies if this posts twice - I agree with goldenage1, but I just want to point out that any of those areas would probably put you pretty close to a 45 minute commute, assuming you have to deal with rush hour traffic. Also, there are some houses in your price range on zillow in sykesville, but they are in neighborhoods - you mentioned wanting to live in the country, so I'm not sure how much land you want, but in your price range, you would almost definitely have neighbors.

I would try Davidsonville or Harwood/Lothian.
