Run
I was raised in that area all my life. I moved two years ago to the state of Oregon. NOT KNOWING A SOUL. I feel I have been here all my life.
RUN like hell from the Waldorf, charles county maryland area. Its corrupt, baised, and even tho the black population is large .....they hound them to death. I am white by the way. But you can see the bigotry every day especially in the legal system.

I would stay away from Charles altogether,Calvert or St. Marys is where you should go.Right now Waldorf ....all of it is being over run with the trash being run out of P.G. county.

I am relocating to the MD area as well as many on here it seems. I have done so much research and the more I research, the more I don't even want to go. It's either high crime or bad schools. I have 2 children and both crime and schools are important as is keeping my husbands commute to bolling air force base as short as possible. I started with Waldorf and quickly went to White plains after reviewing the crime in Waldorf. Now I'm looking at La plata because the schools don't seem to be so good in White plains even the new school North point that I heard so much about. Yes my standards are high. So does anyone know of a good place for schools and security. It seems as though La plata may be the best in that area. I'm headed there monday so if you have any suggestions please email me.

Farfaraway - Where are you relocating from? Sometimes that helps compare what you are used to. La Plata is the better end of Charles County, but if your husband can stand a longer commute, you could consider St. Mary's (Charlotte Hall area wouldn't be too much further) or Calvert - these areas are more rural. You also can look into VA but the commute may be a lot worse, depending on where in VA you pick. Also, you may be able to do Crofton or some where similar in Anne Arundel MD. I am in White Plains and the schools are still Waldorf so I would suggest you go to La Plata if you stay in Charles. However if you are going to go that far south from Bolling, you may be able to go east to St. Mary's and have the same commute but be in a little bit better area for schools and less crime.

I am biased towards P.G. but I live in Charles County. Truthfully speaking It's a nice community. Everything that you wished and hope for. The housing prices are cheaper and more importantly the taxes are cheaper than P.G. They have good schools and a safe community. Right now the whole D.C. area has had an increase in crime, Even Montgomery and Fairfax county. Waldorf is a safe area. The only way I would recommend Waldorf area is if you enjoy long commutes. I moved down here in March of 2007. it's cool. I won't lie I can't stand the commute, from Waldorf to Arlington for work. Other than that if It were closer to D.C. it would be cool. On the flip side. I like P.G. I don't think it's a bad county. You do have your bad spots but they have some little ghetto spots in Waldorf. I would like to address the poster who refer to P.G. as trash. I don't understand that. Just because it's getting to expensive and I want to live in a nice area makes me trash? Well for those who say that must have a silver spoon stuck right up in there tail. Respect everyone. If I could change everything. I would have stayed in P.G. It's closer, the metro is out there and they are building up. Do to the fact that P.G. school system is not being the greatest, and house prices being ridiculous me and my wife have move down to waldorf. Sometimes I don't know why I made that move. But I guess until I can make 150,000 myself. I'll have to deal with the traffic and long commute until I can't deal with it no more. Hope this helps everyone.
