Upper Marlboro (homes, neighborhood, purchase)

I'm a newbie relocated individual who is working in downtown DC but looking for a housing purchase. I've visited a new development in Upper Marlboro that is catering to the equestrian set. While I don't really care about horses the development is affordable and seems to be community oriented. When we purchase, we want to be an active part of a diversified community and really don't know anything about the area. Can anyone comment on this area regarding diversity and 'sense of community?' Anticipated resale value would also help. Thanks!!

I have a client who's about to pruchase in this neighborhood, and it looks like it has a lot of potential. It's interesting because it's rare to see a community catering to a group of people this specific! The community aspect has a lot of potential for growth, partially due to the fact that they are trying to bring together LIKE-MINDED people, and as the old saying goes, birds of a feather stick together.....

In terms of resale value, nobody could accurately predict that, especially in a market like this, so I wouldn't purchase with the mindset that you're going to be making money in a year and a half... Best of luck to you!

Marlboro Ridge is intended to be part of a larger redevelopment of the Westphalia area of Upper Marlboro. The project is probably on hold right now, but it's still on the table. I agree, there's a lot of potential if you plan to stay around a while.

Have you ever been to Upper Marlboro. It seems to me you have never been to PG county because if you have, you would know that Upper Marlboro is a nice family friendly city to live.

I lived in Calvert County for 20 years and worked in Upper Marlboro for 5 and you couldn't pay me to live in Upper Marlboro - especially if I had kids.

...you are joking right? There are some very nice homes and communities in Upper Marlboro especially around US 301 and MD 201.

I have lived in PG County for sometime and you could not pay me to live in Calvert County.

There is nothing there outer than 7-11,Walmart and a nuclear plant (Calvert Clilffs) that you have to worry about. Besides that is a racist county.

....I have a close friend who stays in Calvert and he is tying to get out of dodge because of the things that you have mentioned above.

Being a person who actually lives in Upper Marlboro and enjoys it every time I go home from college, I know where Marlboro Ridge will be. It looks nice. I've lived here all my life. Here are some details:

It is very peaceful and we are very community friendly. We have our annual Marlboro Day which is fun for families. We also have the County Fair every year at the Equestrian Center. Down by the county building you can take a walk by the man made lake and in the summer the ducks are out and its really a relaxing thing to go down there with kids and feed the ducks and fish. On Brown Station Rd. The new Amish Maket is there and they have GREAT food and produce. I love their watermelon. The churches downtown have fish fry's and that brings the community together also. We have sports and recreation for the kids at the field....etc.

I think that you will find it comforting to live here. Its really like a laid back place with absolutly no crime...well maybe 1 or 2 but I've never heard or witnessed any. I actually came home last weekend when it was nice and played in the yard with my dog.
