We are getting set to relocate to Maryland from Chicago. I currently work in Bethesda and my wife might have a great job opportunity in Dunkirk. Where would be a nice place to live, somewhere in between, and relatively safe?
Any and all help is appreciated. Jamie |

The communities of Bowie, Crofton and Davidsonville are about halfway between Bethesda and Dunkirk. They are relatively safe and family-oriented suburbs between Washington, DC and Annapolis.

Annapolis would be about 60 minutes from each, I would choose Columbia, it's around 20 minutes from Baltimore and 30 minutes from Bethesda. For kids, it has one of the best school systems in the country and for adults it has great jogging trails that connect different areas of the city, lot's of planned connecting green space and really the best community centers around (better than any private health club and much cheaper). Annapolis school system is not a great school system (though anne arundel is much better), PG county is unfortunately worse (where crofton and Bowie are located) and parts of it are nasty in terms of crime (I've lived in Bowie, Annapolis, Greenbelt and New Carrolton and work in Suitland).

I would definately look at Columbia Annapolis, and Bowie. I lived in Chicago myself for a time, and the difference between here and there is huge!
All three locations have a lot of the conveniences you're used to in Chicago. If you're looking for the urban amenities in a suburban setting, Columbia or Bowie would be right. If you want a more urban feel, annapolis may make sense, but there are quite a few areas in between that are not as crowded. If you have any questions about the region in particular, I'll be more than happy to send you a regional synopsis! Jonathan Benya Century 21 New Millennium Website Blogsite |
