I am curious how IN YOUR MIND this assualt has anything to do with the Jena 6? Is it because all black people are quilty in your eyes?

I would march for the Jena 6 if I could. That case clearly has nothing to do with this assualt. There are criminals and idiots in every race, take a look at white people (of which I am one) there are more serial killers in America who are white then any other race.

Definitely off topic here. Are we Laurelians or Laurelites? Either way, glad you're here. Nice to have someone else helping to let people know that Laurel isn't so bad after all. Now back on topic. Sometimes, I don't think these acts of violence are always based on race. Sometimes teenagers are just out of control and can get that mob mentality and egg each other on to prove that they are "bad". It might be more of an easy target than the race. Unfortunately, if you mix black and white violence, it always ends up being viewed as racist whether it is or not.

Off topic: Where in Laurel do you live? I'm up by the hospital and it actually is getting nicer and a better place to live with good amenities.

Its getting really built up by the hospital. Really nice houses, just no yards. I live in old Laurel. Unfortunately, I live in a 100+ year old duplex and I rent. But, we only pay $850 a month for about 1,500 sq ft and a deck and yard. With the money we're saving, we'll be in those houses by the hospital one day, lol. Hey, have you been to Pasta Nostra yet? Good food if you like Italian. No, not black. White. From your comments I gather that you are in a mixed marriage (or relationship) so I know you won't hold it against me that I'm white. I grew up in PG County near Langley Park. I've always been in diverse areas. I have a more enlightened view of living and working with people of different races. My own family is mixed. My aunt was married to a black man in the 70's (and it was accepted) and my cousin is mixed and has 4 mixed kids of her own. My sister-in-law has a mixed son and he is the spitting image of my son (both handsome as can be). If I could only go back to my childhood where it didn't matter what color you were. . . sigh

I kinow but were in the 21st century and that was expected to happen and you seem very smart. I am going to get married to my fiancee early next year. I m suprised you realized that without me even saying. So no I dont hold it against you that you are white. smile.

Pasta Nostra is really good too. No complaints really. I am on the newer side, on the hospital side. We have a dog and that was one of the criteria. The older side which isnt more than 5 years old those house and nice but as you said are crammed on top of each other but it still is a nice neighborhood. On the newer side which is smaller by alot with only 68 house compared to the 470 plus on the other side makes ours surely more exclusive and the lots are bigger. We' re on a corner lot in a cul-de-sac so that helps with out German Shepard.

I m sure your saving alot. There are few place you can rent in Laurel for that price and I hope you get what you want when your ready as well in terms of housing but it sounds like you have your own privacy where you are. I m glad you have ben around mixed individuals. Laurel and Columbia seems to have many interracial couples at least from what I ve seen.

I appreciate this discussion, as well. Racism and violence is NEVER okay. I am more appalled and saddened, however, by how some people (all races) seem to have no problem watching or participating in violent crimes against others. Even the media has no problem denigrating people and tearing them down to the lowest possible level as if it's okay, as if people have no feelings. If the tables were turned and the very same things happened to them or someone that they care about, I wonder how they would respond.

One thing I so know, overall people need to get back to being human--care at least a little bit about and watch out for their fellow man/woman/child. That way we could spread love and goodwill instead of hate, fear, and violence.

I didn't know the race of the beaten couple initially and that didn't matter: the act is sickening and made me nauseous, but this is sadly happening more and more (the acts of violence among young people of every race). It needs to stop, and they need to serve time for what they did because there is no excuse. I wouldn't do that to anyone unless they were trying to kill my family, and even thenI'd stop and call the police on them once they were unconscious versus kicking them for further injury.

Spread love and care in little ways, and it'll hopefully stop some who are on that path.

A way to solve problems like that is to mix ppl who have prejudice amongst other races and let them spend time with the others they hate for 6 months at a time on weekends to see if it makes a difference.

If it wasn`t for integration we wouldn't have what we have today so what I m saying is there should be a program that ppl who have race issues should be be part of or attend.

I think that may help depending on the ppl they around meaning social level because no matter what someone will look down on the other if they were more priveledged than the other. It might help if there was a idea like this or maybe a modified program that is divided among a group.
