I honestly don't think that Baltimore City would support a Trader Joe's

There is already one in Columbia - 12 or so miles

That is crazy. Baltimore has two Whole Foods doing a great business. Trader Joes would do great in the city.

It may be worth sending talking to the Baltimore Development Corp. and the Mayors office since they could definately add more sway to this effort... Target and Shoppers at Mondawmin are prime examples.. I am sure Joe is going to want a 'tax break' and these are the folks to make it happen.. especially if they create J.O.B.s

Of course it would do well! Not sure what Trader Joe's is thinking, not taking advantage of this market. Perhaps they think Baltimore is just one big episode of the Wire, but they're missing out on all the MICA, JHU, UB, UMD, Loyola, and Notre Dame students, Hampden Hipsters and many others who would shop at the store if it was there, but don't feel like or can't drive to the suburbs just to buy some food.

If I'm with upper management at Trader Joe's, Baltimore is a no way/no how!

I'm not sure what Trader Joes' deal is or what they look for. People have been petitioning them to locate in PG County. I've been to a few. They are glorified 7-Elevens with a meat and produce section. Everything else is packaged. And they are not that expensive. There are already more expensive markets in PG County with My Organic Market, YES! Organic, and soon a Whole Foods which is under construction. All are way more expensive than Trader Joe's. So, I'm not sure what demographic they are looking for.

And as you state very well, they would do exceptionally well at near college campuses since a lot of their stuff has a long shelf/freezer life.
