If a Black community is your thing great you can afford it. If more diversity is your thing great you can afford that. If you want more exclusivity and Isolation from poverty and the middle class hopefully you can afford that. To assume that a Black person calling themselves affluent are a pay away from poverty is racist and absurd. Many Blacks are affluent because they understand wealth accumulation and intergenerational wealth transfer and they want their children going to school with others who understand and will reinforce.

Viva the truly affluent/wealthy and liberated Black Family. Invest on and accumulate on and leave a nice inheritance as your legacy.
I am going to assume you are black. I am white. I appreciate your post because if you are black, you are saying what I have been telling anyone that will listen during the last 2 years who tried to tell me that people of color cannot be conservative in their finances and political views- it simply isn't true. I am currently taking a sociology class online and we recently discussed social disadvantages and racism. . . too much to get into here but my main question to everyone in our "discussion forum" which is mostly like a blog - has anyone ever asked a middle to upper middle class black person what THEY think about socialization of our economy?? Because African Americans continue to statisically remain an economically disadvantaged minority class, I've found that many white people cannot even comprehend that a black person who has money and wants to keep what they earned for themselves!!! What a concept!

Back to the original OP many pages ago - if you are coming from San Fran to MoCo, you will be able to afford a diverse area no matter if you are purple with green stripes or not. You can glean from all the postings on this website what areas will meet your needs. You are coming from a more expensive area to here so if you can maintain or advance your salary, you'll be able to afford the things you find important to you.

Excuse me, but everyone who is not racist "relies" on some form affirmative "action." Blacks who have traditionally been discriminated against to the greatest extent (and other non-whites to a lesser extent) depend on it to identify and remove those racist people who deny equal treatment and opportunity to these groups. Non-racist whites rely on it to identify and remove racist whites as well.

Everyone benefits except the offensive whites who are racist and discriminatory. Lose the "handout" mentality.

To the OP, I'd like to know what you decided and how it's going. What did you decide?

I agree. Affirmative action WAS needed. But anyhow, that wasn't the intended post. I knew right off the bat the post was going to go this was because the poster used the word "affluent". It is a lot of posting on here for people wanting advice state their income and don't use the word "affluent". It's no big deal folks, they are well off. I guess we are considered "affluent" as well, but we live in Harford County, away from the "noses stuck in the air" Metro area. To Orinignal OP let us know what you decided, I am curoius to know. Good luck commuting to DC from Rockville... Hated it!

I believe you have lots of options. You can get some information about the racial make-up of an area, (school district ) not just a city, through the montgomery county school website. They have ethnic information for each school. The website is Montgomery County Public Schools, Rockville, MD. Just go to the area for schools and look at the statistics. It will give you a wealth of information.
You didn't mention your religious affiliation but again you can look on-line at Moderator cut: link removed, linking to competitors sites is not allowed to get a list of churches in the county. There are over 350 churches listed with lots of specific information about each place of worship.

As far as preschools go you can check out the state's non-public school website for pre-schools within the county. It will have schools through 12th grade but it won't have all of the pre-school (many of the smaller, private schools aren't there), but it is a start. Maryland State Department of Education Nonpublic Schools. Once you decide on where you want to settle you can ask neighbors for other suggestions about small local schools if that may suit you more.

Personally I live in the Kensington area but I know there is lots to offer in almost all areas of the county. I can't speak for PG county since I don't live there. I can only suggest you decide what is important to you and your family, neighborhood, commute, schools, home prices and then set your priorities. If you want to PM me I will do what I can to find the answers to your questions.

Good luck, I think you can be very happy here.

Rockville, Chevy Chase, Bethesda, or Potomac. You can't go wrong there. Good luck.

You're a little late. You're wishing good luck to someone who was looking for relocation advice a year and a half ago. It appears that the OP settled on the Darnestown area (excuse me, NORTH POTOMAC, lol) since she subsequently posted that her son will be going to Dufief Elementary.

Wow. This threads both sucks, and is interesting in so many ways....I'm honestly in shock, LOL! The OP asked a simple question, and it turned into a 10 page back-and-forth/rant about NOTHING.

I believe the OP was only answered twice. TWICE. Out of 100 Posts (counting mine) That is RIDICULOUS, LMAO

This one thread, has singlehandedly caused me to reconsider moving ANYwhere near Maryland, and seriously, I'm not joking......To think, I'd be surrounded by folks in this thread? (Minus the few actually HELPFUL folk)

I mean......hung up on a WORD.......are you serious????
